You can still do a general menus text patch as evidenced by the previous images.
Simply having a few of the menus in english can make a game seem much more enjoyable. You're able to relate better since it doesn't feel as foreign or alien to you. There's something you recognize and can grab onto.
IMO, let em do their thing and release your patch when you do.

I don't really tried to stop anyone. It is just at tried&true case.
Images, are supposed to show the things that work. We wouldn't show them otherwise ;)
Anyone working on this will notice pretty fast:

A general menu text patch by using a hexeditor is for this particular case not possible.
You will run into many occasions of not having enough space (and other ones.

But feel free to do whatever you do. After all, my Baby is Redigitize :)

Romsstar, about the WAY of making the patch, does it compromise the stability of the game? I mean, a patch not done like the way you're doing it, can crash the game? Or you just refer as the way a patch is done because of any other factors?

edit: oh, so the main limitation would be the character space limitation?

Yes of course. Involving Freezes, Crashes and Black Screens. If you don't believe me, check the One Piece Romance Dawn Translation Thread.
You have to get the importance of Pointers and how one shouldn't overwrite them and that if you run into a text limit, that it simply means you have to rellocate the pointer and not saying "it is impossible to do" or "ah we don't need this gibberish".

Sorry if I don't take the time to explain everything in detail. Just really lacking the time...

Hence why hex editing is a poor way to do translations. I agree.
Anyways It's great that people are doing or already done with Menu patches. But I wanted to ask how are u guys doin with the core content like actual story / dialogue / attack / item bits. I hope things are going smoothly.

P.S. Can't wait for Redigitize. Good Luck

Well... he said that they're not working on a "full patch", that means to me that they're not working on the story or dialogues.

That is generalizing it a lot . A space limitation can have multiple reasons. Could be the VRAM having a read limit so you have to extend that somehow,
could be that the routine for that particular text is allowing only one character (as only a kanji), then that although Japanese text is centered always,
it is not the case with the English one. And and and...

When doing a PSP Translation, you have LOADS of Limitations, where the space limit is the first and most bugging one, but it is only one of many.

Well, i have to say a thing.
I can understand that you Digimon fans (Like i am) are waiting this menu patch, and hope that it will be released in the shortest time.
But remember that all the others are only using a hex editor and GoogleTranslating every string that they found. For example, just the fact the they could recognize the protagonist names it's funny, this means that they cannot even read Katakana. I haven't big japanes skills, but this is ridicolous.
And that patch will be full of abbreviations and nonsense texts, freezes, and the text will probably don't fit the spaces that it is supposed to be. And soon they'll discover that they will not find anymore the text that they wanna translate. I'm not stupid, i passed much time just studying the game and coding useful tools for it. Right now i quite finished with this phase.
I'm happy to see that guys like to hack, even i was a noob when i started o do those things.
If you really want we can do a little pre release, this will be decided by our team.
The others are also working on ReDigitize, this translation was started randomly, becouse i tryed to study this game's structure.
I wanna try to translate the story too, i cannot promise that i'll finish all, but at least i have all the I have all the means to it.
I'm doing this for my own curiosity and please, not for glory like somebody told, but becouse this brings me back when i was a child and i loved the digimon series.
Just to make you happy and show my progresses, i can show that now we have a full control of the pics, in a really fast way of editing.
Oh, and all the battle system is now finished too. Take this as example for the ones who don't understand the basic commands.

That's what i had to say for now.

What a news...

Nice Job Man. It looks great.

On a separate note: Anybody else like how whenever there is a complex kanji in the dialogue, the developers put the expanded word with simplified kanji right on top.

Roxas75 (I'm not gonna quote the whole post because it would take too much space :P). Awesome work!!. Can I ask you for something?. Let's say that you end up working on the story, but not all of it. If you had to decide which parts of it to translate and which ones not, it would be awesome if you could translate the sidequests and the black and green dungeon (don't know how it's called, haven't played the game yet), because the rest of the story I guess we can kinda figure it out because they were on the anime, but the things I mentioned not. (Not requesting anything, just wrote a wish :P )

I try to apply the patch to the ID03841 file but I get the error "xdelta3: source file too short: XD3_INTERNAL"

Why don't you just upload the whole file?
And not just the xdelta file?
Then you can just replace it :/

Because the xdelta file would be a patch which is ideal for distribution, and not a modified copyrighted fragment of the game itself. I know, it sounds like burocratic bullsh*t, but that's the way it is :/

I can't get the game to work at all D: i always get the corrupted data crap. I'm running 6.60 cfw pro b10
ISO mode inferno, Can anyone help?

Ha ha oh wow. Yea this thread is just getting full of all kinds of ridiculous.
Rom/Roxas/ReDigitize team, I get what you guys are saying, but the way you're saying is just coming off REALLY bad. You're making it come off as almost eliteist.
You're telling people not to go out and make patches and that only you guys can do it because you have the skills to do so, however I question, where did you get such skills? You didn't magically pick them up did you? You guys had to learn via experience. Let these guys learn. If they make a shitty patch they make a shitty patch. If it has black screens it has black screens.
Let them make their bad patches and learn how this stuff works themselves. The people will download the patch that works and looks good. If they download a patch that crashes, that's their fault.

TL;DR Let them learn via experience.

People are like digimon they evolve also they where afraid the we create our own patch of game the digimon regitize is much easier to hack than digimon adventure...

To Patch Follow this...

Use Xdelta GUI goto Apply

Xdelata patch test-x.xdelta
Original Game digimon adventure.iso
output anyname.iso

Says thanks if it works..

Thanks man, I've just tested it out and it works: I see some english test in the menus. Thanks to romsstar I now know that the way that you translate the game has character limitations, so that only "kamiya" appears in the screen (but not "Tai" ). It would be nice if you just put the 1st name of the characters (like Tai instead of Kamiya). I sent you hours ago a message with the translation of the other characters (Matt, Sora, etc), I'm not sure if you added them or not, but Tai is the only one who appears in english (I mean, it appears as "Kamiya", not Tai, but the rest appears in japanese)
Other than that, there are no crashes or black screens or anything :)

But for a , let's call it, 0.0000000001 version release :P , it's good. Now we know how to create patches that works (so no legal problems or anything xD), so far there are no game crashes or freezes or black screens, and some text in english appears. Pretty good for a "incorrect" mode of making a translation :) .
