With two Wii games announced today I was already buzzing (because my favorite console isn't dead yet) but then I found THIS on the shop channel!!! Either this was released last Thursday or sneaked in on us tonight...

It was released a while ago, Just wasn't newsworthy XD

I guess it's nice to know that the final nail in the coffin hasn't been hit yet ;) It's also nice to see the Wii go in the route that I always thought it should go and that's the "iPhone of Game Consoles" route. I think the system should bee a bit app centric over the next year or two. Also, would it kill someone to release a new internet browser for the Wii? :P

The Wii is terminally ill... let it die in peace, with dignity... :P

Seriously though, that's cool, I suppose. A bit late to support the system, but hey! It's never too late. Seeing that everybody in the world and their dogs have a Wii these days, it's actually a big market that can be taken advantage of, I'm quite suprised these kinds of Apps didn't pop up very often earlier in the system's life cycle.

Well on its tail end the Wii is a pretty solid multimedia machine if you don't feel like shelling out $250+ on a PS3 or $200 + Xbox Live fees for a Xbox 360. It has Netflix, Youtube, now Amazon Instant Video, not to mention games. Hack it and you get DVD support and a wealth of multimedia options.

DVD support only works on the early models though, so that doesn't apply to everyone. Netflix is US-Only AFAIK, so that's another issue. Amazon Video is much more available, but unfortunately it's not supported in my area. The Youtube App is region-locked, so it's not available for legit European users... so yeah, hacking the system and using streaming/media player homebrew was really the only option for me, and in that regard, yeah, the Wii fares well.

Netflix is not US only, it's certainly available here in the UK, if not other parts of Europe. Amazon Video is US only though I thought. Perhaps you got those two the wrong way round? Anyway, here in the UK we have Lovefilm instead of Amazon Video, which is a service run by Amazon that does both instant streaming and DVD rentals (although on Wii obviously it's just the instant streaming). Lovefilm only released a Wii channel in the last month or two, but Netflix has been available on Wii for quite a while now. Neither service has anywhere near the vast catalogue available in the US though.

And YouTube has been released in Europe now as well, that happened at least a few weeks ago.

Entirely possible that I got LoveFilm mixed up with Amazon Videos, actually. I'm basing my info on what my Wii tells me, so perhaps Netflix just doesn't work in Poland. :P There's also the BBC iPlayer, don't forget about that!

European Youtube is news for me - I thought you had to region-free the .WAD to use it. Looks like I have to dust my Wii, I haven't used it since New Year's Eve.

Netflix is also available in Denmark on the Wii

Or you can do the smart thing like me, and use a proxy server !
I can switch between USA, UK, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Canada etc.etc.etc......on the fly trough the web browser on the PC, and watch these country's unique Netflix content on my Wii ( once set up properly )!

The beauty of it, for $5 a month I pay for this proxy server, I can find titles on Netflix Canada for example that are not available in the US or UK...and viceversa.
Also Netflix Brazil is pretty huge and all the movies are in English with optional Brazilian subtitles, so the language doesn't make a difference.

Take from a pro ;)

If you're smart enough with YouTube, you can actually watch things from the "shows" section on your Wii by adding the individual episodes ta playlist. I have been having lots of fun watching Highlander on YouTube! No need to pay Netflix to watch this show :P

Ah yes, of course. Often somewhat limited in the way of great titles, but it's certainly nice to have it there anyway. It is a shame other catch-up services (specifically 4OD) aren't available on Wii.

It's perty funny how Nintendo releases these type of things for the Wii after the Wii U and 3DS. When the Wii U came, the Wii became NOTHING. It is now a dead system.

Illinois is working to ban toxic food additives that have been banned for decades in other countries; additives that can be replaced and all those countries still have Skittles and Mountain Dew. Title of the piece: GUBMINT WANTS TO TAKE AWAY YOUR CANDY

@Veho, Sounds and smells like bullshit. They don't give you cancer, and California should know that. I don't get why they stick labels that say "may or may not cause reproductive harm or cancer".
