With two Wii games announced today I was already buzzing (because my favorite console isn't dead yet) but then I found THIS on the shop channel!!! Either this was released last Thursday or sneaked in on us tonight...

The Wii is terminally ill... let it die in peace, with dignity...
Seriously though, that's cool, I suppose. A bit late to support the system, but hey! It's never too late. Seeing that everybody in the world and their dogs have a Wii these days, it's actually a big market that can be taken advantage of, I'm quite suprised these kinds of Apps didn't pop up very often earlier in the system's life cycle.
DVD support only works on the early models though, so that doesn't apply to everyone. Netflix is US-Only AFAIK, so that's another issue. Amazon Video is much more available, but unfortunately it's not supported in my area. The Youtube App is region-locked, so it's not available for legit European users... so yeah, hacking the system and using streaming/media player homebrew was really the only option for me, and in that regard, yeah, the Wii fares well.Well on its tail end the Wii is a pretty solid multimedia machine if you don't feel like shelling out $250+ on a PS3 or $200 + Xbox Live fees for a Xbox 360. It has Netflix, Youtube, now Amazon Instant Video, not to mention games. Hack it and you get DVD support and a wealth of multimedia options.
Netflix is not US only, it's certainly available here in the UK, if not other parts of Europe. Amazon Video is US only though I thought. Perhaps you got those two the wrong way round? Anyway, here in the UK we have Lovefilm instead of Amazon Video, which is a service run by Amazon that does both instant streaming and DVD rentals (although on Wii obviously it's just the instant streaming). Lovefilm only released a Wii channel in the last month or two, but Netflix has been available on Wii for quite a while now. Neither service has anywhere near the vast catalogue available in the US though.DVD support only works on the early models though, so that doesn't apply to everyone. Entirely possible that I got LoveFilm mixed up with Amazon Videos, actually. I'm basing my info on what my Wii tells me, so perhaps Netflix just doesn't work in Poland. There's also the BBC iPlayer, don't forget about that!Netflix is not US only, it's certainly available here in the UK, if not other parts of Europe. Amazon Video is US only though I thought. And YouTube has been released in Europe now as well, that happened at least a few weeks ago.
Netflix is also available in Denmark on the Wii
Ah yes, of course. Often somewhat limited in the way of great titles, but it's certainly nice to have it there anyway. It is a shame other catch-up services (specifically 4OD) aren't available on Wii.There's also the BBC iPlayer, don't forget about that!
