I was wondering something, is the Wii U's Wii Mode locked at 480i as opposed to 480p? I ask this because it looks much blurrier than the Wii using the same cables. Snes9x Next, GenplusGX and other retro emulators on RetroArch look worse than they do on the actual Wii itself. The reason I think it is 480i is because when a character flickers after getting hurt, you usually see white strobe effects at 60fps (white-off-white-off), but on the Wii Mode, the flickering looks like it's being interlaced and I can see scanlines as opposed to semi-transparency.

Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the settings the same way the real Wii can, so it's stuck at a blurrier interlaced resolution. Is it because I'm using component as opposed to HDMI that came with the console? Is there ANY way to resolve the blurriness? Ugh, I installed the HBC for nothing...bloody hell. Well, the warranty's void, smart move, the_randomizer, smart move. My TV doesn't support native 240p, very few LCDs do. Why didn't anyone report this issue when it was discovered that it could be installed?

The Wii U upscales Wii output, nearest-neighbor, before sending it to the TV.
This means that your TV doesn't upscale it, and your TV might do better filtering.

But why does it look worse? It doesn't look as clear/vibrant as the actual Wii, and Snes9x Next has a weird interlaced effect when the strobe effects are displayed (flickering characters). On the Wii, flickering strobe effects don't have visible scanlines. It shouldn't bother me, but it does.

It looks worse because the filtering being done is different, somebody in another thread noticed the same thing with Wii titles on the U versus the original ("jaggies" being visible).

I'm not sure on the interlacing issue.

Play Castlevania IV on the Snes, let Simon get hit (or a power up), and you will notice the flickering looks interlaced as opposed to being semi-transparent on the Wii, or how a real Snes would do it. The filtering is different, yes, but they should have warned those who wanted to install the HBC, now our consoles can't be sent in to Nintendo should the need ever arise. Lovely. When I hacked my Wii, I didn't care as it was out for a year when I got it, but this, this sucks. There's no way to change the scaling or the filtering, so now our games will look worse. I'll be sticking to the Wii thank you.

hmmmmm think i'll end up keeping my wii for emulation than
Yeah, do yourself a favor and stick with the Wii. It looks better. Had I known this, I wouldn't have installed the f***ing channel. Perhaps if we ever get an HBC for the actual Wii U, I might change my mind, but until then, I'm deleting the channel. Stupid filter and scaling.

Why is it Twiizers' job to warn you about what the Wii U does when running older software? Like I said it displays differently with Wii games as well and it's something the Wii U does, Twiizers has nothing to do with it... and you already knew you might void your warranty by hacking the device. :P

I know that, I'm not blaming the team nor did I say it was their job. It looks unnatural and like 480i instead of the 1080p or whatever my TV supports. It looks worse than a real Wii, something I didn't expect. Since I've no use for it, I might as well delete the bloody thing.

Try this, set your Wii-U to 480i using composite cables instead of HDMI. That way your TV does the up-scaling instead of the Wii-U. The rest of your games are going to look like ass, but that should fix the problems with the emulator.

The problem is that the Wii-U in Wii mode just re-sizes the final output, it's not actually using a higher resolution to render.

Can't you just set the output to 480i using component cables, should be the same effect, no? What about 480p using HDMI, atleast you can skip the terrible wii-u upscale.
It sure would be nice if we could select a different display resolution for wii mode rather than the whole system.

Where is this video quality thread you speak of?

Hopefully yes but stop whining, be glad that
they make it work and hope they will fix it.
How? There's no way to fix it if the vWii handles the scaling differently than a real Wii does. The filtering is also handled differently. If they made a port for the actual Wii U, then it could be done, but the Wii U just handles Wii emulators differently.

Americans don't say, "bloody..."

you might want to change that flag to that of Great Britain... Just sayin'...
Nah, no reason to change it. I say bloody all the time, would you rather I use sodding or effing as an adjective?

Nah, not worth it, I'll just use my Wii since the scaling is handled in a weird fashion. The lack of changing the vWii resolution is laziness on Nintendo's part, they could have coded an option to change it. Like I said, I'm going to delete the HBC from the vWii if it's no longer going to be used since the results are disappointing. I'll just go to the data management screen and delete it. And I just love being verbally ripped to shreds, it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I should bitch more often. Someone close the damn thread already, no sense in keeping it open.

here's two:

http://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-u-wii-mode-vs-wii2hdmi.339435/
http://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-u-renders-wii-games-differently-in-wii-mode.339119/

you got verbally ripped to shreds because of your attitude, your sense of entitlement, trying to blame others that they didnt tell you, and also because you tried to tell someone else that they should uninstall HBC because of the issues you have. vWiiBrew is still in extremely early days and is lucky that it even works, yet you just want to bitch that it doesnt meet your requirements.

He did the same thing on another thread. Not an argument with somebody who does not comprehend what you say is it? Going into "Ignore mode" with him from now on.

This is all really odd to me. I was just thinking yesterday while I was playing New smb from Wiiflow, that the graphics quality looked remarkably better on the WiiU's vWii than it did on my Wii. My Wii just has the yellow, red, and white rca plugs. I'm one of the few that is completely happy with my new, well the kids :) new WiiU with hbc. Except when they keep playing Skylanders, lol. Mine??

Wii games look fine, emulators however, look like s**t and have weird interlacing issues.

I am waiting for Atari emulators. Lets see what those look like in 1080P;-) Bought this $350 box, wait, I traded for it, but those 30-40 year old games have me all excited.
