Hi guys,

I've been off my Wii for a couple of years and launched it up again, wanting to emulate some Snes with the newest SnesGX. But it wouldn't start, citing too old IOS version. So I looked into it and it seems my system is way outdated in a homebrew respect.

So I got the new HackMii installer from the site, but I couldn't get it to work either from bootmii or from HBC. It hangs at the scam screen. I've searched around and I've read that cIOSes might interfere but I don't remember ever installing cIOSes, except for preloader0.29 which has an IOS60 patch. Might this be the problem?

Here are my specs:

- PAL Wii bought at launch in 2006
- HBC 1.0.2 (IOS55 v18.25)
- bootmii v0.8 (installed on boot2)
sysmenu 3.2e boot1b boot2v2

Any idea or solution is appreciated.

Thanks & happy holidays!

hello

install IOS58 (with IOS58 installer, Wad manager + IOS58 wad or dop-mii)
then launch again hackmii installer, it will use IOS58.

ps : with dop-mii (wiibrew edition), you can also update your IOS
do NOT update your System Menu IOS (IOS30)

@Pong20302000: I have a NAND from 2009 but what I do remember that I installed preloader first and only then found out about hbc&bootmii. So that wouldn't solve it :(

@Badablek: I have come across the IOS58 installer, it requires a net connection. If I turn my Wii's internet connection back on, will it automatically update? Or can I turn it back on without updating?

You are missing IOS58 so you will need to either install it using the installer mentioned previously or...

A system update then letter bomb etc followed by hackmii installer to get Hbc runnin' off the right IOS.

Wii always ask about update - just say no.
- set internet connection
- ignore HBC autoupdate
- run IOS58 installer
- reboot
- do HBC autoupdate
you are set

Woo-hay! It works! HBC is updated and SnesGX runs! :yaywii:

One more question: should I also update bootmii? If so, to boot2 like I have it there now?

if you really want to stay offline, you can also grab IOS58 on your computer with NUS Downloader, then install it with Wad Manager (or Channel File Manager, Multi Mod Manager, etc.)

ps : the wii will NEVER update itself automatically, even if an internet connection is available. As mike333 already said, you just have to say no when it asks for an update.

EDIT : too late. Glad it works ;)

Why does nobody use PimpMyWii? It's the BEST IOS updating app ever. I've been using it to hack people's Wiis with for years now, with no problems.

@Badablek: Actually I did both. :D ModWii got me IOS58, installed it with Wad Manager, but I didn't remember if Wad Manager could actually do that so I went and turned on the net, declined the update, got into IOS58 installer which said error so I said ha, it must already be up. And so it was, I could update HBC.
Turns out I was skiddish about the net because I had a memory of the Wii saying "There's gonna be a system update now" and there only being an OK button, but since then I remembered that dialog was prompted by a disc and not the net connection.

Question still stands: do I also update BootMii?

Just update all bootmii installations, IOS one and boot2 if You have it.
Then make new NAND dump and keep it in safe place.
Also remember to take care about dump integrity - 7zip/rar it.

Oddly enough, I've used it to UN-brick my wii before. But never the other way around. I think people that brick their Wiis don't know what the fuck they are doing. Also, BootMii installed to my Boot2 helps with Brick recovery, but I've never had to restore my NAND backup.

PimpMyWii is a nice concept, but it just does too much at once. It also patches all your IOS's, which is a bad idea, doesn't install an optimal cIOS setup, and has poor coding.

You don't get a reputation like BrickMyWii for nothing.

Funny, I've never had any issues with it.
Not to sound rude, but one person without problems isn't statistical evidence.

This is a hacking community. If someone, somewhere in the world, bricks their wii, it ends up as a thread here sooner or later. Person66 most likely hadn't had the thing brick on it himself. But like myself and JoosinOnline, we've encountered people who have.

And yes, wiis only get bricked by people who don't know what the fuck they are doing. But like it or not, it is the responsibility of the program to either educate them what it is going to do or back out once ordered to do something that could result in a brick (and preferably both). It's in that aspect pimpmywii falls short. As such, it's ill-advised here.
