The Archos GamePad... ..Said to be 0.3-inches thick and cost £129.99, it's a new emulator machine. Maybe.
It's already shipping, but don't really know how good the buttons would be, if the battery life is good enough, or anything build quality wise.
If anyone has more information, please inform us if this thing is really relevant.

What comes with it:
  • Fully integrated game controller analogue sticks & 14 buttons
  • Unique & patented ARCHOS Mapping tool - make any virtual control game work with physical controls
  • 7'' 5 points capacitive screen 1024 x 600.
  • 1.6Ghz Dual-core A9 processor, Mali 400 MP Quad-core Graphics Co-Processor
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with full access to Google Play and its 700 000 apps and games as well as music, movies and books
Seems to have only 2 shoulder buttons ...I so wanted 4 :(

Dual-Core ARM + Mali400 = the setup for your average chinese tablet, really...

...however! As long as this is about $100, it can be quite a fun platform to emulate things on. I don't like the face buttons, I'd prefere a standard D-Pad and round function buttons, but hey - this is just a promo picture, plus, it's not an insufferable issue. What I can't see are shoulder buttons - it'd be nice to see the back side as well.

This was announced way back in October. And sadly videos are around of it. The mark-up is the final design.

And JXD has their own gamepads in the works as a rival. the s5600a/b and the s7300a/b. A models are single core and Bs are dual core.

Archos has been making MP3 players and recorders for freakin' ever (hell, Rockbox has ports for at least 5 of their models).

"Archos Gamepad", this seems to be named.

It's even got HDMI for play on the TV, which is definitely a plus. Lots of no-name Chinese tablets skimp out on the HDMI due to the licensing fees.

The internal hardware and addons seem fine, but... those controls look crappy.

Waiting for a video to see what they really look and play like.

Archos makes quality stuff, but they were always a bit on the expensive side. This tablet is relatively cheap; makes me wonder what's wrong with it.

Well considering its commonly said packaging is more fun to play with than the actual toy
Only if you're a cat.

Yeah I've been looking at this and the JXD models. The JXD S7300's look better than this but the Archos supposedly has a higher clock speed. It also supports the same gamepad style, dual L and R buttons(for real psx emulation) and of course all the other crap. I think the JXD's go for $150 as well.

Anywho the JXD S7300:

If anything these tablets are great way for a gamer to get into the tablet gaming scene but without straying too far from what they're used to. The "touch to gamepad" software isn't just exclusive to the JXD's and Archos though, it'll work for other mobile/tablets. It's just the JXD/Archos tablets have real controls at a much cheaper price too.

Seems the screen has some angle issues. Not sure about the JXD though.

The actual performance of the archos cpu and the 7300b are estimated to be the same. The GPU differences however from what i have been reading is being debated. Those fallowing android SoC chips won't know witch one is better til both are out. The 5600b also has the same internals as the 7300 but with a smaller screen size and lower resolution. The lower resolution is believed to be better for emulators performance (less stress on the processor) but it will keep the s5600 from having the newest android games. At this point it's a toss up. I'm keeping my eyes on all three.
