usually if you're burning a disc the software will convert it back to the correct format automatically, if you aren't burning a disc you'll have to do it manually.

any decent converter will convert your MP3 to WAV within a few seconds
just make sure you pick 44.1kHz 16-bit stereo as the default output and that files stay properly named

Thanks guys. It seems the new gens emu works with mp3 if im not mistaken. I loaded Snatcher and seem to be getting music etc without any conversion.

No it doesn't. Snatcher, like some other large Sega CD isos, mostly use internal sound chips or whatever it is for speech and music, it only uses the CD tracks for long cutscenes or some random effects (like the whoosh on title screen or the intro music). Best way to notice you got CD tracks wrong is to enter the CD player menu when booting a game and try to play the tracks manually.

does anyone have pier solar enhanced cd working? Is it possible to get the music in this game with the latest genplus gx?

at the title screen, go to the options and pick the one to detect the disc, then, when the game asks you to insert it, load the iso file like you normally do (the wii dvd blue light should be on)
another solution, that was once given by someone here, is to have the rom (.bin) and .iso named the same (pier.bin and pier.iso), in the same directory
both worked for me (immediately got enhanced music on title screen)

If you're just trying to play it in an emulator than the MP3s are fine. Sega CD games that come with .wav audio are better in audio quality than .mp3s. Better still are .bin + .cue which are a bit-for-bit perfect audio CD quality copy.

Any of these can be burnt to a CD-R and played in a real Sega CD if you can find a working one; there is no copy protection as household CD burners and CD-Rs were prohibitively expensive back then.

I feel old.

mp3 are not supported on this emulator and iso +wav files are exact same quality as bin+cue regarding audio, audio data within the .bin file is basically .wav files without a WAVE header

No not at all. Sega CD games use CD format/quality audio. Put a Sega CD game in a CD player and it will play the music. Put the game in your computer and look at the files in a hex or audio editor. The wavs are lossless in quality but when you burn them to a new CD they will not be bit-for-bit identical to an original disc.

I was not aware of Sega CD emulators that didn't support mp3. Try another one?

i am only saying that iso+wav are binary identical to bin+cue regarding cd-da data, mindless the wave header in wav files.

that's not something i just made up, it is a known fact, cd-da is RAW 16 bit stereo samples with 44100 samples per seconds, this is no different in wave file, a sample is a sample

the binary differences you might notice when burning a CD can be due to mastering inaccuracies or if the wav files were reconstructed from mp3 files, if you rip your cd to bin+cue then to iso+wav, you will retrieve the binary data in wav files inside the bin file, if you know where to look at ( that is what the cue file is for)
