Scribbling on the iPad... Does not work. Even high speed typing does not work (although I'm awesome so I can make it work).
For scribbling, you either want a device designed for it (like the Samsung Galaxy Tab phone, which comes with a stylus), or a laptop with a graphics slate. Or there's also a pen tracer (sensor on the desk, clip on tracker on the back of your pen) but since you'll be making paper notes with that anyway, it defeats the point (might as well get a scanner). In the end, there's no scribbling substitute for a pen and paper. I like 4-colour pens - switching colours helps makes notes come alive.
Otherwise, what I did in uni was get a laptop and just type it up. You can either get an ultraportable or a netbook for this, and so long as taking notes is all you want it for, you can get them cheaper than an iPad. When you start to want to add games to the mix... Well, that's when I start predicting you'll fail university (unless games design IS your course).

Had to revive my topic.
Now, my uni doesnt provide any printed out stuff of anything. Even during tutorials, we have to print out our own question papers and practice papers.
Most people seems to have a tablet and seems very handy.
I wasn't referring to scribbling with my fingers. Of course I would use a touchpen.
If I took my laptop to uni, that would solve my problems.. however I have a high end laptop, which has large screen and weighs TOO MUCH for me to carry around in my bag with all the other shit that I carry with myself.
I really need a tablet or a netbook/notebook(built in graphics slate or touch screen functionality?).

For portable web browsing and viewing info/materials (digesting content) tablets are great.
For making content, however, they're pretty crappy. If the size worried you, just buy a damn netbook, that's what they were made for.
Your average netbook is almost comparable to the prime+dock, and a lot more powerful/functional.

(netbook's have good battery life, right? sometimes I have to draw things.. thats why a touchscreen would be a little more useful.. but at the end of the day it seems i gotta turn to paper and pen.. if i dont have any other way -.-)

netbooks are severely underpowered for this day and age and that's the reason why they're dying out. don't even consider buying one unless you have one already. the detachable tablet (TF700T) or Galaxy Note 10.1 (writing tablet) are the top-tier choices from Android and ofc ipad 3.
I own the Galaxy Note 10.1 myself and notetaking (actual writing on the tablet with the included S-Pen) is pretty good, it lags about half a second to write but doesn't miss anything I write or anything. however these top-tier ones cost 499 right now (all 3), and the Galaxy Note 10.1 screen resolution isn't as good as TF700T or ipad 3 (Some people say you can't tell, but I sure can. it's not TOO bad but you definitely can tell the difference.)

Netbooks, in theory, can have way better battery life than tablets.
However most companies take advantage of the lower power drain of the average netbook "core" (CPU+chipsets), and offset it either by adding on fancy things that drain the battery anyways, or they just cheap out and stick a weak battery in there so the battery life isn't that much better in many cases.
Newegg is not available in the UK. It would be hard to find the product I want on newegg at another place that ships to UK lol.
I remember netbooks having 1.6GHz or around that speed processors. But most of my search today shows 1GHz processor and 1GB Ram.

I've swapped my laptop for a tablet, well worth it. Laptop was oversized and overkill for what I used it for (surfing, movies, music), so I just do my general stuff on the tablet and keep media on an external HDD. Going to invest in a keyboard cover, but at the mo don't really need one.

Nexus 7. Affordable yet mighty.
Galaxy Note 10.1. This one can be particularly useful since you can write and scribble stuff as notes. However if you use it on stuff like web browsing or messaging (using the S Pen) it can be quite a chore.
iPad. Various tablet optimized apps for you to choose from. iPad mini is expected to be shown on Oct 23 btw.

What kind of laptop do you have???
I've got a Alienware M17x R4, which I carry to my work (internship) every bloody day. 20 minutes cycling, 30 minutes of public transport and 17 minutes walking again.
In the bag I've got a mouse-mat, mouse, power brick and a mouse.
Then I've got my 3DS with me (cos I rarely met people with it before).
An 10" Acer netbook, with power stuff.
Then I've got 3 note books for writing stuff down (with images etc.).
I've got the accessory box of my mouse (RAT 7).
A case for my glasses.
Some USB stuff.
1TB external HDD with cable.
And sometimes a headset (Rocat Kave 5.1, transport it in a psu cloth bag)
And then My space is almost up.
If I drop the accessory can, the Acer and headset. I could carry 4/6 engineering books with me.
So a High end heavy laptop isn't a real excuse
(for those interested in the backpack, it's a ASUS ROG SHUTTLE 17" Backpack)

You don't want something like that. Every one I've run into is shit. They have especially weak specs, and weak construction. The downsides for fitting a touch screen into a cheap device.
I don't live in the UK so I don't know where to buy stuff, link me to some shops you trust (unless it's just Amazon, if so tell me and I'll just look there).
Do notice that all of the stuff he mentioned was for digesting material, not creating it.
Like I said, tablets are fantastic for digesting material. Watching movies, browsing youtube, reading stuff online, they excel.
However when it comes time to make anything, they're shit.

its not a impossible task to carry SHIT load with you, but its more convenient to be more carefree and light on stuff.
Amazon would be my best choice.
But you can look up on asus, sony, dell, acer etc manufacturer websites
good battery life would be cool. If you are saying that tablet is a definete NO.. than I guess something like a touchpad(or whatever the heck they are called, touch tablet or whatever) addon would be cool.

at the end of the day taking notes and doing the work is much more comfortable with pen and paper.
but I do need a tablet for "VIEWING" content
. I guess the "creating" of content will be left to pen and paper.So how about suggestions for a 10" tablet with good battery life? Like I said, for viewing content
so cheap chinese clones would do.. that can load PDF files and works with flash.I would need to access files on my Uni's website. Most files are PDF, excel and word documents.
