Hacking How do I reinstall OFW?

I've installed OFW and CFW several times from an adapter - if the process doesn't require cIPL (on the stick, not the cIPL installer - that works normally ), it should work just fine. I'm guessing he just placed it in the wrong folder.

We've seen multiple times where switching to an official stick allows updates and such where an adapter wouldn't.

PS. I was appalled, APPALLED to find out a PSP 3000 does not support WPA2. Shame Sony, shame!

Technically does "support" WPA2, you can make it work by switching it on the router to use TKIP-AES, then manually creating a connection on the PSP. As far as I know, this should work. Remember that the PSP is quite a "legacy" piece of hardware at this point...

Where exactly are you putting the update? Are you sure it's in the right folder?

I've checked out some prices for official memory sticks, it's crazy. The best I could find was 4GB for $20 + tax, and it's not even in stock. (This is why I bought the adapter! lol)

I only bought a memory stick when I needed to create an MMS and couldn't get it to work on an adapter (for obvious reasons), you don't need a huge stick - you need a stick big enough to allow you to update.

That said, the Canadian prices do seem quite... off...

If what Google tells me is true, 1 Canadian dollar = 1.0176 US dollars. With that in mind, on the US version of Amazon, the same sticks appear to be half-price...

If your current setup won't even validate official Sony update files (which are a single packaged EBOOT), I'd suggest you get a decent memory stick and use it from now on, not just for two minutes.

That said, you can try to find 2GB ones if possible, some stored in the US here still sell them.

I sincerely wonder what happened to his system in the first place - Sleep Mode is dead hardware-wise and software-wise, applications randomly die, firmware updates are rejected... His PSP clearly cought a cold....

EDIT: Merrit, one more question - do you have a twin-SD adapter? If so, have you attempted using *only one slot at a time* before? Some issues I had with plugins were fixed by doing that when I was using a counterfeit adapter. Remember that removing either SD will cause your data to become unreadable, so create a backup.

There *are* tools that install firmware updates via sans-sony methods (Hellcat's Firmware Recovery Flasher, for example), it's just that Sony changed their mainbords and no longer allows for the use of the exploit which allowed it. I'm pretty sure that your mainboard does not support it.

Yes I tried loading Hellcat's just for kicks, and it said my unit was not supported and refused to even offer options.

I see... what about downloading the official Sony update the built-in method? Is that also not working?

It says it can't contact the update server... Maybe since they have the Vita, the aren't hosting online updates anymore O.o

That is odd... Are you sure your connection is working? Can you connect using the browser at all? Oh, and of course remove the update file that's corrupted before you attempt to download the official one.

I tested the connection with the PSP internet browser, and it is getting internet. I tried with no update file on the memory card. A google result suggested it would work after manually updating firmware (harhar)

Perhaps you have another SD you could test it with? At this point, anything helps. Worst-case scenario, you'll just have to buy a Stick.

Yes, I am thinking that a real memory stick will be the only solution here. However, seeing as it plays games just fine, I just have to find an actual save point, is solving that worth $20 +tax? lol

A cheap stick is just as likely to cause you issues. You get what you pay for.....

Just get a decent normally priced Sandisk Pro Duo (4GB is what i use) and you won't encounter these erroneous issues.
