Competition Time 2: The Designing of a Handheld - Results!
Sponsored by

Hey, sorry I didn't post this yesterday I had company and forgot about all about this! :P

Our voting system was that the staff voted for 3 entries. If you came 1st (lol...sorry I'm childish) you got 3 points, 2nd you got 2 and 3rd you got 1 point.

Mars_x - Winner with 22 points and Mars_x wins the K1GBA prize!

Honourable mentions for mezut360 with 9 points and Kiaku with 8 points. Veho was the only other member left with 3 points...though technically he should have been disqualified because his entry was not really a handheld...bloody chuff. :yaypsp: Click their names to see their entries, they don't win anything at all.

Congratulations! Very well deserved, looks like you've put a lot of time and effort into creating that console - I want to buy one now. :(
Costello and the K1 team are now stealing the idea and will be working on it. :yay:

@ben_j suspicions were right! :O

Congratulations! Yeah I agree, the specs sheets for the Domino look very professional. mezut's video for the HEX was very cool too! :)

I kinda wish I had gone with my original plan of either coming up with a crazy unique idea or none at all instead of posting the boring entry that I did. Oh well.

Congrats guys. I had entered myself, but when I couldn't find my ruler and the realization that my MS Paint skills sucked, and that all the other entries blew mine out of the water, I decided a quiet retreat was the best course of action. Again, congrats guys, I really enjoyed the entries and I wish I could have gave the competition a better go. :D Maybe next time.

Yay! Thanks to everyone for your kind comments. I had a lot of fun making this.

And also thanks to K1GBA for the prize, but as I said on the original thread, I dont need/want the prize!

Now what to do with the prize? I have a couple of suggestions:
1.- Keep it for a future contest
2.- Give it to the second place
3.- Make some sort of giveaway via social sites (yay publicity!)
4.- If the staff is ok with it, just give it to Hadrian's daugther, since she so much wants it :D

I'd like to say, there is a revised version of the handheld, thanks to Veho, it solves a lot of things
and works better (tho with some tech changes). The image is here:

Finally:

Costello and the K1 team are now stealing the idea and will be working on it. :yay:

I know this might be a joke, but if its not, I would gladly hand over the files I used, (PSDs, AIs, Fonts, Images, etc).
And even work for free closely with the team to make it happen, I have many more ideas for the OS, it would be fun!

Congratulations to everyone who participated, there were a lot of creative / fun designs.

Well I've just got my daughter a GBA Mirco with a flashcart so she won't have need for this now.

I think we should give it to the second place entry if everyone else agrees.

This entry is awesome, I wish it was real. Though, I have to question why there would be both 4-button and 2-button controllers, and both analog and non-analog ones.
But, if this was real and had 3G I could use it as a phone, as well as a proper gaming console, it would be the best of two worlds. :D

I got an idea. Make a kickstarter for an actual production run. The detailed information you've already provided will be enough for the page, and I would definitely back it.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
