Well here an interesting question. How long do you think it will be before someone releases an N64 emulator for the 3ds? It rather obvious the 3ds can play N64 games (Zelda OOt and Starfox 64 anyone?) and seeing as a regular ds can play a slightly modified N64 game (super mario 64) then it is likely this is going to happen right? I mean it bound to happen at some point right?
Also can a current flashcart even support an .n64 game as they are? I'm going to upgrade anyway, but will they have to release a new flashcart just to play n64 games? I know this won't happen anytime soon, seeing as the 3ds seems to be kinda hax proof at the moment, but will it ever happen?
I'm not even going to bother reading all of the other comments, because they're either people politely telling you that you're an idiot, or more idiots agreeing with your idiot logic. It's not rather obvious the 3DS can play N64 games, there is a huge difference between a port and emulation. Honestly, if you want to play N64 games that bad, get a 64drive or ED64; the ED64 will more than likely be more suited to someone that obviously lacks game development knowledge, like yourself.
Also, do you have any idea how difficult it is to properly emulate a game on another device other than the one it was designed for? Please watch
this video, there's a segment in it that shows them emulating an old ass CPU, and how slow it is for true emulation of something made a lot earlier than the N64 runs on a modern computer. Not to mention there is a pretty sizable difference between MIPS R4300i and a freakin' ARM device. Please keep in mind that a lot of the compatibility you see in some N64 emulators is thanks to a shit ton of per-game hacks, it's no where close to true emulation.
Question: How in the world did you manage to reach the conclusion that SM64 DS is
slightly modified compared to the original N64 release? I'm going to assume that you're seriously young and you haven't ever played the original release of SM64. Do you have any idea how much code was probably rewritten, not to mention the shit ton of programming added to the game? There was also quite a few graphical changes on various levels, it has a ton of differences when compared to the original release..
This link lists quite a few differences from the N64 release of the game, and this isn't even complete, as it would take quite a lot of time to spot and list every single change to the game.
The only port I could EVER be hyped up about, would be Banjo Kazooie.
God I loved that game.
Does Nintendo even have the rights to republish RARE games anymore? Microsoft bought RARE in 2002, hence the reason there's XBLA releases of BK and BT, you won't be seeing a remake or port of a RARE title on a Nintendo platform any time soon, unless Nintendo buys the rights for the specific IP from MS.. MS charges out the ass to renew a license for publishing game patches on Xbox Live, imagine how much it would cost a company to buy an entire IP..
