I feel ever so stupid, I can't get any CPS2 ROMs to work. I've selected the CPS2 core, but whenever I select a ROM I get an error about ROM loading. They work fine on my PC.

Can someone point me in the right direction of what to do?
When you say they work on your PC, do you mean they work with FBA v0.2.97.26? Because sometimes ROM formats change between releases. Make sure the ROMs you get are for that version of Final Burn Alpha.
I'm using the Winkawaks emulator...

Wow, thanks for the quick update! :D

any chance on more cpu/ram consuming systems such as n64, psx(mednafen), cps3(im guessing not?)

We will likely launch a separate project for emus/games that require hardware acceleration in order to perform well. RetroArch is mostly confined to software rendered emulators/games.

psx(mednafen),

When the Wii can outperform a Core i5, sure. Until then, you won't like a port of Mednafen PSX to Wii - which is why it's not going to be done by me.

cps3(im guessing not?)

Tried it already - I stripped FBA CPS3 down to 437KB, and even the smallest CPS3 ROM was too big to fit into memory. Not happening without VMM, and that would have a huge knock-on effect on performance depending on the implementation.

ah, cool. thanks for the detailed response. i didn't have much hope for cps3... is there no psx emu that could be ported to wii and actually run well? ... or is Wiisx probably the best psx experience we'll ever be seeing on the wii.

btw: couldnt RetroArch have a feature where after you select a new CORE it autorestarts the program for you? unless that would eatup a lot of memory or something adverse. in which case, nevermind.

Well, we were dreaming about cps2, now i will dream about cps3 xD (Any way to do something similar to what NeoDs does?? Rom converting or something like that ??)

doesnt neods do the same thing that cps2 and neogeo do on psp, create cache files of each rom? i remember playing SNK vs Capcom and Garou: mark of the wolves on the psp etc

Snes: Tales of Fantasia, Crashes ( Rom too big? )
PCE-CD : Loading a cue file results in dsi

The best feature in imo is the ratio option , 16:10 looks sweet for all those retro games, when you have your tv set to 4:3!
Feature request: Add a scanline option...

Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean are both 6MB/48Mbit ROM files, so it may be Snes9x Next at fault. They work fine in Snes9xGx however, but I'm sure it will be fixed.

Ok there are a few things I can comment to help.

-Darkstalkers 1 (Euro I use) has no audio on opening. (some other titles too, but only the openings like ssf2.zip, armwar.zip, etc)
-Can't make hsf2.zip to work
-Can't make MvsC to work
-I eventually get crash dumps when loading from one game to another (it happened to me from ssf2 to armwar.zip, or armwar.zip to nwarr.zip, yet this is random and they work individually, maybe this is related to the audio issue, I don't know)
-When I open the emulator, the classic controller (from last time I set it up) doesn't respond. I need to go to settings, and there I find something strange, Classic Controller is already selected, but the keymaps corresponds to the GC controller. I need to switch to GC then press left for Classic Controller and now the keymaps are correct, go back to the game, and then works, BUT I need to do this everytime I launch the emulator.
-Another thing is if it's possible to remember the last loaded rom path, across launchs. So whenever I launch the emulator, I'm there at the rom path ready to select a game. Please? : D

And final question, what Aspect Ratio should I choose for CPS2 games? I select Core Provided, is this OK?

Thanks again for this wonderful project.

Thanks for this awesome gift! It is truly amazing to play Vampire Savior and Aliens vs Predator on my Wii. They run perfectly :-)

Here are some improvement requests:
1. Pixel-perfect Aspect ratio. The other console emulators for Wii have correct pixel size, but on RetroArch, the pixels are not square and change sizes as they move. If I turn on bi-linear filtering, everything looks blurry, but at least pixel sizes are correct. Is it possible to display pixels correctly, without filtering?

2. Scan lines. If the pixel sizes are correct and scanlines are added, it would be an almost exact replica of the original systems. Being able to adjust scanline transparency would be ideal.

3. Easier controller setup. It is hard to tell what buttons are used by the emulator and setting up the controller is very tricky. Could we just press a button on the controller itself to set the input to that button? (for example, "CPS button A?" and we press whichever button we want on the controller to assign it to that)

Once again, awesome work, thanks for the hard work it is appreciated

With regards to PCE-CD - I have tested a cue/iso I found for Dracula X and that definitely worked. Are you sure that you have syscard3.pce in the same folder as the CD game you're trying to load? Right now there's the inconvenience that this BIOS file needs to be present in the same directory as the CD game.

For the next version I'll make it so that this BIOS file should be in the system directory so that you don't have to copy it everywhere.

Also - read Ms. Mednafen's notes on PC Engine CD emulation - I think she doesn't support a whole lot of CD image combinations because of puritannical reasons.

@[member='LibretroRetroArch']: Thanks for the answer. Are you aware of the controller issue/bug? It's very annoying, that's pretty much my concern. Other than that keeping the rom path across sessions, and possibly the d-pad improvement made by tantric in last snes9xgx. It helps on fighting games!

I think it doesn't store my controller configuration settings correctly, when I exchange the input device for example Classic Controller --> Gamecube it delete the settings for the previous device and viceversa (the configuration rest to default). Tested with CPS2 as core.

Which controller issue/bug?

i also need to set my classic controller each time i run the emulator.

as default for 'classic' its got half classic and half CG settings.
