Hey it's an announcement of an announcement!

It's been rumoured for a while that Nintendo will tell all in September and also maybe show some unseen Wii U games. Well they are definitely holding a day long press event on September 13th and it'll say "more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment." It will be hosted by Reggie (get those memes ready) and will be in New York, seeing that it's just a couple months away from the "holiday" launch window that the Wii U is meant to be released, I think it's safe that we'll know at least a launch date for the US.

They did this with the 3DS last year and the price, date and launch games were announced there.

Now where is the August Nintendo Direct?

But I predict November 21st 16th release date, $299 price and Nintendo Land not being a pack-in.

Nintendo Land not being a pack-in.
I'd doubt it would be plus I think I saw some stores in the US having the boxart for the game on shelves with "pre-order" on them and many retailers are listing it as a standalone title.

Launch November 18th, the last two consoles were launched on the 3rd Sunday of November and they favour big game releases at that time too.

The console will probably be sold at a loss so $299 sounds about right.

Maybe it wouldn't be that profitably, but I doubt that they going to do that.
3DS lost them a lot of money, I think only just a couple of months ago did it start to profit again. Nintendo would want to hit the ground running with this, hype and good sales would be vital to get more publishers on board and the casual gamer to think this was the latest "hot tits" device. They wouldn't want the embarrassment of another price cut that made some gamers butthurt when they weren't happy with the ambassador games as compensation.

$299 is the perfect price. It looks good to consumers, not too expensive and not exactly cheap. Selling it any lower will result in too high of a loss.
Would be awesome if that were true because that would be the equal price of a PSVita here in norway. Well not exactly because i have yet to add 25% to that price because of tax.

I think Nintendo has learned their mistakes well, so I'm looking forward to NOT being disappointed for this press event.

Surprise me Nintendo.

I estimate Nov 18 release, $299.99.

For other regions:
¥30,000
A$349.95
€279.99
£269.99

I'd guess that the Wii U ends up somewhere in $299 to $399 price range. (It would be nice if they released the system's specs as well, but I'm not so sure about that.) Still, it's nice that we'll finally have some confirmation.

Unless, of course, this just turns out to be an announcement of an announcement of an announcement.

I'd have to say 279.99. I would have said 259, but I forgot about the specs and tech inside of this thing, plus, a little more for the controller, IMO i'd say 279 is about right. Plus, if there aren't any good WiiU titles I'd like at launch, there are HUNDREDS of Wii games (since I never bought a Wii lol) to hold me until something arrives.

This is why Nintendo succeed. Backwards compatibility with older systems.

Fixed.

$279.99 sounds a little too low to me though.

$299.99 is too much. I'd rather purchase a PS3 320GB bundle for the same price. I'm hoping for the $249.99 - $269.99 range.
$299 is just right for a next-gen console. It isn't competing with the PS3/360, it'll be competing against the PS4/720.

Compared to when the PS3 launched at $500... Yeah, it's a lot.

$299 is actually quite a sweet deal for a next-gen console. You might claim that Wii U is weak, but we have absolutely no idea of the actual specs and most likely it'll be more powerful than anything now.

If somehow Nintendo can launch it at $249.99 without making any losses, color me shocked.

It's impossible to go lower than 299, especially when looking at the spec sheet and looking at the comments Nintendo has made regarding the hardware.
They say that they want to compete with next gen in terms of hardware and online. Sure the system doesn't include a harddrive (only external options) but I'm sure the tech that goes into the controller makes up for that.

Did they ever officially release system specs for Gamecube, Wii, DS or 3DS? Thougt it was something Nintendo just didn't do.
