Thanks for the info man but if I do this will I still lose my data?
You can also use Windows:
Open command prompt and type:
format X: /fs:fat32 /size:32k
Not that you need to replace "X" with the actual drive letter of the hard drive you want to format.
Be careful not format the wrong drive!

Either way, yes, you will lose all your data when formatting.

I use this: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
However it appears it's already formatted as fat32, so I don't know if it will make any difference. If there is only one partition on the drive then I doubt it.

he just want to check "primary" and "active", he doesn't want to format.
If you have only one partition on your drive, there's no need to check, it's already like that (well, at least it should).

A hard drive can only have 4 partitions. This is called a primary partition (up to 4).
But if you want to create more partitions on your drive, you need to create an Extended partition, which can contains multiples "logical partition".
If you don't have more than 4 partitions, there's no need to create or use Extended/logical partitions, and you should have only primary partition type.

The Wii homebrew are compatible only with Primary partition type.

in this picture you can see there are 4 "main" partitions:
1. NTFS
2. Ext4
3. Ext4
4. an extended partition (the one with the blue line around it)

In the extended, there are 3 logical partition:
4.1 Ext4
4.2 Ext4
4.3 Linux Swap

About active:
A drive can only have one active partition at a time, and it must be a primary partition.
You can select which partition you want to set to "active" status, it's what determine which partition will be booted when you power ON your computer.
The BIOS launch the drive MBR, which search which partition is active, and launch what's located on that partition boot sector.

If you have only one partition on your drive, then there's a chance it's already a primary one, and it's already active.

Thanks all for the help, I got the reset key combination to work, DM still gives me black screen for some reason, my hard drive is only one partition FAT32 32K Cluster, I'd really hate to have to format my hard drive now but in worst cases I guess I can always go back to DML 2.2

There is a setting in USB Loader GX where you specify what version of DM/DML you are using.
Did you make sure to change that to 2.2+?
I imagine you did, since apparently DML 2.2 works for you, but just throwing it out there, just in case.

I did!

Edit: Should I try without any memory card inserted? Cause I only tried with both or just the A port!

I just read in the Dios Mios page that if the splash screen takes long to show up or doesn't show up at all it may be either that the IDE2USB controller device is at fault (whatever that means) or the USB port is the incorrect one, it also can be that slot B is in use which was the case, should I try switching the USB input or is it the hard drive cable? Wii games and everything else seems to work fine with the HDD at full speed, it's just I get a black screen on Game Cube games when I try to run them off the HDD but when I copy to SD then run they work just fine!

That would be one of these
ide2usb.jpg
that you would use like this
ide2usb3.jpg
to connect an IDE or SATA hard drive (normally for inside a computer) to use with USB. This also applies to enclosures that you'd stick the IDE or SATA hard drive into so it can be plugged into a USB port.
On the other hand, if you have an all-in-one USB hard drive that you can't take apart and replace the actual hard drive inside, then the "IDE-to-USB controller device" is part of the hard drive so if it's not compatible then the whole drive's not compatible.

@Maxternal thanks for explaining this to me, I guess my 500GB Toshiba is incompatible then :(
Is that the one the sell exclusively at Walmart?
I've been considering buying it because they have it at $60, which is a deal these days.

I dunno about Walmart because we don't have it here, originally I was gonna buy me a LG one which is around 16 KDs, a really good deal here, but sadly I was informed that the company no longer sells these, they stopped for several months now!

Edit: Looking at the photo I don't think it's the same one, I think mine is a more expensive one though!

I see.
Can you tell me if your drive looks like this:
link
Maybe Toshiba sells them in Kuwait through other retail channels, but if yours looks like that, I'll know I need to avoid it.

This drive has also a "IDE to USB" interface:
seagate_freeagent_go.jpg

It's not because the IDE part is not visible that it doesn't have one.

ALL drives have a converter from IDE/ATA/SATA TO USB. the HDD doesn't use USB natively.

and my drive is like the one on the picture above.
This HDD has two different detection by DIOS MIOS.

When DIOS MIOS detect it as "Seagate free agent", it's working.
When DIOS MIOS detect it as "OEM", it's not working and is stuck in a reset loop, and the splash screen never appear.

They even have different PID/VID.

I suppose it's caused by the "IDE to USB" hardware, it's sometime working and sending the correct info, and sometime it's not booting (the drive LED doesn't lite) and the HDD info is read instead of the converter info.
Both mode work fine with USBgx, but not with DM. I guess it's the tinyehci which has problem?
I still need to go to irc to see if I can debug it with crediar, I didn't took the time yet.

So no one's gonna help me with my Megaman Anniversary Collection problem..?
Has anyone else reported that it's working?
I don't even have the game so I wouldn't know if it's just one of those games that doesn't work.
I think you said other games DO work for you, right? What loader are you using? What have you tried already? All the information you can give could be useful.

I use CFG Usb Loader and DIOS MIOS Booster as an alternative. I have DIOS MIOS 2.2 installed. I've tried Wind Waker, the 1st disc of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! They all work perfectly. My friend has it working and I downloaded it once and it would freeze after it showed the Bink Video logo. So i got my friend's files straight from his USB and put it into mine and now it just says "FATAL: Set your working directory correctly you MUPPET!!!!" It's not the first time i saw the error when trying to play Megaman but now its the only thing i see when i boot it up.

Do the other games work fine with BOTH your previous installation AND your friends' borrowed files or did copying your friend's files just break everything worse? Is the game a full size image (1.35gb) or is it smaller ("compressed" or "trimmed") ... or is it in extracted GCReEx format? Do you know if what format your friend had it in? Have you compared the MD5 on them to make sure they were the same exact file and that yours wasn't just corrupt?

Oh, another thing, when you say you got your friend's files, was that your friend's disk image or your friend's CFG Loader installation?

hey cyan i got the same drive on my bedroom wii, although i pulled the original hdd and am using a new one in there, i think its the seagate HDD that is giving you the problems. mine now has a samsung 250gb hdd and it works great, never have any issues, it actually works better than my 2tb 3.5" on my main living room wii.

before i swapped out the hdd it came with, i remember it did give me problems, but it was so long ago i barely remember. the original hdd is now in my ps3 and it works great there as a normal sata, although its a little bit laggy due to 5400 rpm.

The other games work fine with both my previous and current installation. The game is compressed, I think. It's 1.33 gb but my original one was 1.35 gb. We both downloaded the same file to try and play it so the original format of M.A.C was .gcm. We used DiscEx and something else that i can't remember. I think it's the same exact file as his. When I said i got his files, i meant just the disc image and the sys folder.
