hello everyone !!

i am thinking about purchasing a sony psp-3000 this month...and i would like to hack it and such.

i was wondering which one of these i should purchase :

Sony PSP 3000 Core Pack

or

Sony PSP 3000 System Recharged Refurbished

also...are 4GB enough space to use my PSP for gaming ?

Sony - Memory Stick Micro M2 (4GB) for PSPgo and PSP

i have read a few of the tutorials on this forum...i just want to make sure i am purchasing the right items ^_^"

and...would i need to purchase anything else to get started ?

* thanks in advance everyone *

Either should work, just note that refurbished means it's been used.

PSP games can be up to 1.8GB (the size of the ISO, and some games can require install data on top of that), so 4GB isn't enough unless you only plan to have two to three big games at a time (depending on size).

You'll need either a memory stick reader, or a USB cable to hook the PSP up to your PC in order to read and write to the memory stick.

hmm...okay.

so that means i should just pay extra for a new one then ?

* i noticed that a lot of people have posted that used PSP's have no battery life *

wow, those ISO files sound big...so i may only be able to play about two games on a 4GB card at a time.

hmm...never heard of a memory stick reader before >_

Btw, it's cheaper to buy a ms pro duo -> microsd adapter and buy a cheap 16GB microsd card with it.
And a decicated card reader is better than using a usb cable, you'll get faster speed with a card reader.

@Rydian

okay, i'll try and purchase everything and test things out this weekend !!

* i'll let you know how things go *

@lemmingsarecool

so micro SD cards work with the PSP ?

* like are there only certain brands that work *

i have a good micro SD card reader...thanks for the input friend ^_^"

Don't get a MicroSD to Pro Duo adapter. They don't compare to the real thing in speed or reliability and give people all sorts of issues...

@xist

so don't get a MicroSD...but do get a Pro Duo adapter ?

* what kinds of issues will happen if i use it ? *

also...i have been seeing a lot of "SD" and "SDHC" cards ( while browsing the internet )

is there a big difference in the two types of cards ?

No. Just get a Sandisk Pro Duo....don't mess around with adapters for whatever other memory cards you have.

Get a PSP, a 4GB to 8GB Pro Duo (Sandisk) and a USB Pro Duo adapter. And possibly some form of case or skin (i have both)...

Also, don't get a PSP Go. Ever....

I go overkill to protect my PSP('s) with the Best Skins Ever full body/screen skin and the Logitech Playgear Pocket case.

A USB to Pro Duo adapter isn't essential...it's just a tad quicker than using a USB cable direct to the PSP.

@xist

okay, i want mine to last as long as possible as well ^_^"

* thanks for the tips *

hmm, i'll try the cable first...and if it is too slow, i will invest into a "USB to Pro Duo adapter"

EDIT - August 20th

hmm...okay, i got everything now.

PSP-3000

PSP-3001XPB / 98898

Mfr. Date 01/26/12 U

Piano Black PSP system

okay...it came with firmware 6.60.

so...i tried using the ChronoSwitch Downgrader.

* to downgrade to 6.20 *

i followed all of the steps...but i still got an error >_
