Hey guys, I want a new 3DS game (KI only lasts for so long :I) and im torn between Heroes of Ruin and Kingdom Hearts 3D. I kind of want Kingdom Hearts because it has an awesome combat system (dat Flowmotion :I) but its voice acting makes me feel sick, and it lacks multiplayer (as far as I know). Then theres Heroes of Ruin which looks cool, especially the mutliplayer, but the gameplay looks like it would get repetitive quickly and from reviews I hear people say the Story isnt all that. I like nice and meaty games (I need something to hold me over till Paper Mario's release.) Also, dont say "We cant know what kind of games you like, durp durp dur, only you can" and all. I just want to hear what peoples own opinion is on this matter, but if everyone says Kingdom Hearts im not going to just jump up and buy it if HoR sounds more to my taste, and vise-versa. Thanks ^_^

EDIT: I have played both demos and liked both.

Have you tried the demos for both? I like HoR more based on the demo, it's an ARPG hack n slash like Diablo, Torchlight, or Titan Quest. That genre is always light on story but the reason people play these games is to get cool loot. Try the demo, if you like it you'll love the full game

Kingdom Hearts is your answer, i found the demo for heroes of ruin dry and boring whereas i remember playing the first kingdom hearts ds game for ages, and it was epic.

To the people that didn't like Heroes of Ruin, have you played Diablo or any Diablo clones?

In Europe at least ,there are demos out for both of those games... give them a try if you haven't!
I found Kingdom Hearts to be a letdown for me. I have only played the first game on ps2 a short short while, and watched a friend play the second game.. but I found the controlls to be really awkward on the 3ds game. It didn't flow, and I became disoriented easily. And enemies were harder than I thought they would so early in... and the lock on targeting thingy didn't work AT ALL for me.., oh well.. Might've just as well been me on a bad mood i guess..

HoR on the other hand was more in my taste, it was your standard hack n slash western style RPG... Felt like Dungeon Siege 1 for me... I liked it a bit better, though it was a bit tougher as well. I mean, enemies hurt you bad, and I was on the brink of dying several times. You have to pay attention to your health and potions.

So for me, HoR. But this is just based on my experienses on ONE session of the demos each. (Completed the demo for HoR, gave up out of boredom on KH).

(wrote this when there were no replies.... lol)

Depends i guess.

Have you played the other KH games? If not, probably Heroes of Ruin then, and grab KH down the line when the price drops

I played a bit of BBS and hated it, I beat 358/2 and got Halfway through RE:Coded before I lost it, I also played Chains of Memories and kind of liked it. Oh and I play them for gameplay, I don't give a shit about the Story.

Definitely maybe Heroes of Ruin then lol. I'm not an expert on the stories myself (Still working on finishing Recoded and 358, but i beat everything else), but i'm pretty sure 3D is a pretty big step in the story.

Most people who i know that love KH not only love the gameplay, but the disney storylines.

I'm going with KH myself, the demo really impressed me. While the demo for HoR didn't do anything for me at all. But it sounds like you want a more "traditional" rpg and don't care about the story, in which case HOR may be better for you.

If your not into a game so much for its story, kingdom hearts isn't the way to go. Kingdom hearts kinda revolves around its story and relies on it. Heroes of ruin is quests and slash and multiplayer and go get this game cuz kingdom hearts no for you.

Just to clear it up, I do like a game with story, its just I don't really care about Kingdom Hearts story in general, not that if 3D did have a good story I would ignore it. Oh, and with HoR how is the online? Do people co-operate often (like in random match ups) or is it kind of just everyone doing their own thing? Also, can you use Voice chat outside of your friends list?

I was in you predicament but I'm going with kingdom hearts. I heard that HoR was short on the campaign and I don't really like short stories, but that is my opinion. I'll say go for KH. HoR looks like it's mainly for the multiplayer and the extra stuff you can get from the site.

I got KH delivered on Friday and I've only racked up 6 hours so far, but I think it's a reasonably good game, save for its annoyances. I find the camera control and locking on to enemies quite annoying, the story so far has been pretty weak, as have all the new characters. Dropping is probably the biggest contributing factor towards me putting the game down, it's a bit of a pain how you have no control over when you go to sleep. You can immediately choose to drop the other character, but I usually close my 3DS when I drop and do something else for a bit.

I go for the magical third answer, Tales of the Abyss.
Yeah, TotA is a better option than both IMO ― if he doesn't already have it, that is.

What do you mean about the sleeping? Can you still play once you fall asleep or what?

You alternate between controlling Riku and Sora based on a timer. When the timer expires, the character "drops" into some kind of sleep or whatever and the other character resumes playing. The stories are somewhat connected but follow different paths. It's an interesting concept but it's a little abrupt when you're in the middle of something like fighting, and a bit strange when you're seeing the other character do something you haven't even done with them yet.
