Question to long-time Acekard(2i) users: how's the dev team turnaround with bootloader updates? do they relatively keep up within a firmware's release? you know, around a week or two? or do they take longer?

i just bought an AK2i, and i'm eager to get back into DS games.
However long it takes to find an exploit as well Acekard team tends to wait for major updates on the DSi/3DS to release their patches.

to ferofax
so basically, nobody can tell me if in the past Acekard has been able to put out bootloader updates within the week, two weeks, or a month, or half a year. right, not even people who've had them for years, who know by experience.

thank you then, i'll get back to lurking.

well then let me enlighten you. it seems the team has been really good the past few updates. they had an update for 4.0.0-7 EIGHT DAYS before the 3DS firmware came out, and then they had an update for 3.0 the day it came out. so i suppose the team's having difficulties on this one, or are waiting it out.

at least now I know they still got a relatively active team. that's all i really wanted to know, the time frame between firmware updates and bootloader releases.

the reason they had a update for 3.0 is because dsi got a update on march 22nd and the 8 DAYS BEFORE IS BECAUSE DSI WASENT GETTING ANOTHER SYSTEM UPDATE!!!

does ur akaio show 1.8.9:?? i replaced everything and it shows me 1.8.9...

the old theme is still in the theme folder for 1.8.9 LOL dont know why n00bs think a theme version means anything.

yeah I think from now on we'll just remove the old theme. We changed default to EvoI from EvoR a bit ago. I still use "Zelda".

From what I read on another site(I don't want to say as I might get BANNED for giving a "rom site" when it has NO ROMS), someone there contacted the AceKard team and they said that the new firmware should be ready to go in the next week or two. Also, off topic, but they DID mention also that they are working on a 3DS flashcart.

We are working hard on the 4.2 udpate, approximately,it will be finished in one or two weeks. So for the delay, but we'll try our best to be quick. So please be patient.

Well, currently no flashcards support RTS in real sense, including the so called R4 RTS. Anyway,we'll try to add this feature to the AKAIO in the future.

But now,it can not be realized temporarily.

Well, cracking 3DS is the hardest part.Since the big N had enforced their protections for 3DS console,so there must be a new hardware Acekard to play 3D games on 3DS.

We are working on this new Acekard. To be honest,we can not make sure how long will it take but we'll try our best to be quick.Hope we won't let users down.

Kind regards

So, right from the horse's mouth.

Strangely, my clean (but trimmed) Black 2 dump is not working with AKAIO 1.9.0, with AAP either on or off. I can get it to work with the "Game Enabler" code, but I really don't like the use of RAM modifications. Also, Normmatt only mentioned using the Game Enabler code for Pokemon Conquest, not any others.

That's a risk you assume when using a trimmed Rom

thanks for this!
i'll give it a go once the 3DS is charged up!
edit: everything works fine including black2 and conquest (there was no need for me to use game enabler code for conquest)

I do remember one time that they went perhaps a month without an update for a 3DS block, last fall or winter. When, on the other hand, the r4dsn 3DS (The Officially Wood-compatible ones) released updates within a couple days as well as the DStwo being updated pretty immediately. Acekard is still my favorite flashcart for theming and loading GBA roms to my 3-in-1, so it gets my biggest MicroSD.. but there's been once or twice when I don't think they should've taken so long. I think the reason they pushed an update back was because a DSi block was incoming, so they waited until it actually happened to make sure both lockouts were handled (and reduce confusion, since so many customers have only the most basic understanding and capability with the updating processes, I'd assume)

85% sure my memory's good on all I just said.

Has the Mario and Luigi Bowser Inside Story, been fixed? Whenever you are big bowser fighting your castle, after the battle, when you get your points, it freezes and continuously makes the sound in a freeze mode. Hope it's fixed.

That was fixed a while ago. Have you ever played with the individual settings for the game, or used an Anti-AP cheat? Double check those.

1. A rom site is not a reliable source of information.
2. Acekard Team has nothing to do with AKAIO,
3. This kinda information most likely would have been announced on the Acekard site or even have a thread on GBAtemp.

I have found problems like this can be solved be simple means.
Try backing up your microSD card and reformatting with this problem, with these setting FORMAT TYPE - FULL (OverWrite) : FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT - ON.
Then copy all your files back and re-install AKAIO.

Random question... with the new AKAIO 1.9.0 firmware, what is the highest version of DSi and 3DS it will work on without needing an Acekard bootloader update file?

AKAIO released it July 5th so does that mean any DSi 1.4.4 or lower and any 3DS 4.0.0-7 or lower? Because Acekard released a bootloader update file for those versions on 17th April.

I suppose what I'm asking is do AKAIO incorporate the latest Acekard bootloader update into their firmware?

I know you need to use the latest Acekard bootloader update to be able to use AKAIO 1.9.0 on a 3DS 4.2.0-9.

I'm asking because I was in the middle of writing a quick guide for my friend that just bought an Acekard2i and I wrote that as long as her DSi is 1.4.4 or lower or her 3DS is 4.0.0-7 or lower she can use AKAIO 1.9.0 and then use it to install the latest Acekard bootloader update. But if her console version is higher then she needs to use a DSphat or DSLite to update her Acekard2i with the latest bootloader before she'll be able to use it on her DSi/3DS. Would I be correct in saying that?

AKAIO has nothing to do with DSi/3DS compatibility, that's all up to the bootloader.

AKAIO is not "firmware" (nor is Wood or EoS or whatever), that's just a common mistake.

AKAIO is not made by the acekard team, while the bootloader is, but even then they're separate things and work totally differently.

Bootloader updates have to be applied to the flash cart itself for the Ak2i and most other flash carts, which means you have to run it to update it.

Solution: Don't update your system. First damn rule of hacking a system, don't install the updates.

Ok, I'll make sure she knows never to update her system (and I'll try to remember not to update mine too!)

But still, do you know what the highest version of a DSi and 3DS it is that works using AKAIO 1.9.0 without a bootloader update?

I know for example that AKAIO 1.8.9 worked on my 3DS without a need for a bootloader update. That was until I accidentally updated my system to 4.2.0-9 and had to wait for the latest bootloader update before I could use my Acekard2i again.

AKAIO has absolutely NOTHING to do with DSi/3DS compatibility.

DSi/3DS compatibility is determined solely by the bootloader version installed. There have been multiples times that a DSi/3DS update has blocked flash carts, so there's many bootloader versions out there. If the software installed on the DSi/3DS is higher than the flash cart's bootloader can start on, then it won't start.

Here's some info on how that works.
