Android Best Custom Rom

so far i have tried CyanoGenMod but for some reason my 3g has stopped working.
Im currently using the stock 4.0.3 ICS on my Samsung GS2 with Siyah Kernel.
i would like to know which ones you have tried and which ones you consider the best and why

My previous phone ZTE Blade I had several as-vanilla-as-possible ROMs but sticked with CM in the end. Now that I have Note I have been using stock one until CM gets out of alpha and/or gets some kind of S memo equivalent.
It's actually pretty hard/scary to try other custom ROMs just becouse they are made by some random guy in most cases and CM is only bigger custom ROM for several differend phones, so yeah.

It also depends on your phone. Some types of roms work better with others. You can check out XDA if you'd like, they should have a separate sub-forum focused on your phone.

At the moment, I'm using the Xperia PLAY, but my bootloader is locked so I can't use custom roms that require a kernel change, which is pretty much every rom out there for any phone. So I'm out of luck, someone is working on porting the HTC Sense 4.0 OS on that phone. Like I said, it just depends.

Your best bet is to look at the GS2 forums on XDA. The best ROMs are very hardware specific. CM is good but the dev on XDA have more specific mods for phones that can result in some great things. For instance there's probably a good ICS ROM on there that's closer to stock Android than the GS2 one.
Be careful you get one for the right version of the GS2 though.

i was just wondering what you guys used. not actually asking which roms to use on my phone. just wanted to know what you guys used and experiences. i actually have checked xda forums, all custom roms seem to be kinda outdated though except for cyanogen.

Depending on the ROM, it varies from small tweaks (changing pixel density to give impression of higher resolution etc. - can be done on any ROM), preinstalled scripts (apps2sd, better memory management - these things can be installed on any ROM, they just often come preinstalled in custom ROMs), removed bloatware, up to custom kernels (overclocking CPU etc.) and security precautions (fixing bugs & vulnerabilities in Android, allowing the denial of individual permissions on apps), or tweaking preinstalled apps (add extra options, change the look of apps). Most custom ROMs will be "themed" a bit different to stock as well. Often they'll come with certain apps preinstalled as well (either replacements or additions to the ones normally there).

EDIT: It is worth noting that many of these things CAN be done without installing a custom ROM. If you have root, you can tweak your stock ROM a lot.

You forgot one of the more important ones:
Getting a higher version of Android on no longer supported devices. For example, I have ICS on my HTC Evo.

ParanoidAndroid is an awesome rom ported to lot's of devices!

It allows both the tablet and phone variants to be on the phone and switch between the two with a simple reboot. Is also based on Cyanogen.

Someone just started to port that to the Xperia Play very recently I believe! I'm still deciding whether to use either GlazedICS or ParanoidAndroid after I unlock my phone's bootloader.

I use The Blu Kuban FF18 for my Sprint GSII. Really stable, with tons of downloadable mods from the rom updater that's built into the rom. Best rom ever.

I go between my own AOSP ics build and paranoid android. However Many Xperia devices have the true ancestor rom which brings new Xperia apps and UI to the 2011 Xperia family.

I'm running CM9 on my HP Touchpad, CleanGB on my Epic (Galaxy S1), and rooted stock on my Galaxy S3.

ROMs are very phone specific, and even the "generic" ones (CM) have problems. For example, the CM9 build for HP touchpad doesn't support the camera or mic.

Look at the ROMs for your phone
Read the bug list or the last 2-3 pages of message in the thread

If people like it but are complaining of lockups, avoid it.
