Did you notice how the A/B and X/Y are inverted compared to a 360 controller ? :/
*facepalm*
Have you noticed that the DS, 3DS, SNES and Wii have all used that button layout?
I know, but have you noticed games like Dirt 3, Batman Arkham Cityn etc, are not on the DS and 3DS ?

I just hope Nintendo finally let's you charge your remotes instead of constantly buying batteries for them or even from buying a stupid adapter that stops working after 3 weeks.

if you look at the top of the new controller, there appears to be a mini-usb port. i think we can safely assume this works in the same vein as Dualshock 3 and plugs into one the consoles 4 USB ports
It sure seems that way, let's hope for the best.

The problem with the xbox controller is that the d-pad is a d-saster.

My ideal controller:

Gamecube ABXY layout.
Razer Onza mouseclick ABXY buttons.
Gamecube triggers.
2x Gamecube z button.
360 controller shape.
360 analogue sticks.
Sega Megadrive d-pad.
Programmable tertiary bumpers like Onza.
I don't really care about home/start/select.

And who cares that Nintendo ripped off the shape of the 360 controller? Microsoft ripped off the analogue stick from Nintendo and the ABXYLR buttons from Nintendo. Nintendo only stole a shape, and it's the one that all third parties are using now, even for playstation.

That's a bit different from "We took a wiimote and put a ball on it". Or [Wii U announcement] -> *1 Year later* [Microsoft SmartGlass]. Miis -> Xbox Live Avatars. Smash Bros -> OHLOLTOTALLYNOTARIPOFFOFSMASHBROS.

Nintendo make huge innovations and then have that taken by their rivals. They rarely take anything from their rivals and when they do it's always something really basic like, e.g. achievements (but improved!), which is now pretty much MANDATORY if they want to release a successful console, since Steam, Sony, MS all use it, and "the shape of a controller", when everything important about the controller was INVENTED by Nintendo. They only copy ideas when it's become an industry standard and they're forced to do so.

Funny thing is that they invented the modern d-pad with the game and watch, shoulder triggers with the snes and even handles with the nes max.
They copied the shape of the xbox and got the wii aesthetes from apple, dual analogs from sony and analog shoulder buttons from the dreamcast, sony copied the the wiis motion controls and advertising, microsoft copied the eyetoy etc.
The one thing I hate when companies does this is that they in many cases never give any credit and talk like it was their own original and innovative idea though it's so obviously isn't.

I wonder if nintendo comments on the similarities...

Nice to see Nintendo releasing a full fledged "classic" game controller.
The Classic Controller (Pro) did the job although it had no rumble and depended on the Wiimote.

This is a good move in the right direction. "Traditional" games like RPGs and shooters can make their way to the Wii U now too

its made of hardcore gamers aka everyone said nintendo........its perfectly fine....

nes controller inspired snes which inspired n64 which inspired xbox which inspired ps1 which inspired gamecube which inspired ps2 which inspired xbox306 which inspired ps3 which inspired wii pro..........................

so nintendo isnt copying other controls ...they got inspiration from it now nintendo is taking inspiration from them....in the nintendo owns them all

The prototype tablet was actually big which made it not easy to hold and press the buttons, but the new gamepad is actually smaller and can be held perfectly fine now, so I don't see why that wouldn't work with shooters or RPGs however, the Wii U Classic Controller is obviously going to be more comfortable to use with shooters.

The prototype tablet was actually big [...], but the new gamepad is actually smaller
So the new tablet is smaller than the old tablet, and the screen looks smaller compared to the controller size than on the old version, so if the tablet itself is smaller, the screen is much smaller  Any official word on the tablet dimensions yet?

Nope, but from the picture I saw the gamepad looked much smaller, because one of the guys were holding it and it was actually comfortable to hold.

If the wii u is comfortable and light enought to hold in one hand for a period of time, I wonder if they will make it with stylus contols.
