Watch the exploit involve an xray laser or something that no one in these forums would ever be able to get, yet alone afford if they could. LOL, it's an alternative to the 'cold' bug if you don't get the significance of needing to produce xray's in a specific spot.

alphamule I can't find anything on the topic, perhaps a source?
Sorry about that - I usually try to provide some links.
Soft errors in ICs are like mutations in DNA that can potentially cause cancers. The article on Wikipedia seems pretty accurate about that issue with cosmic radiation. You can also use X radiation to the same thing. Some chips are getting smarter and actually will try to correct those errors or at least detect the tampering. You're VERY unlikely to see said technology in consumer electronics anytime soon and MUCH more likely to see it in aircraft/automobile/medical electronics. For years, there has been designs that deliberately 'vote' on the correct response, for example.

Oddly, the searches for "code bug" are coming up short like you said. That's weird because it's kind of well-known among chip hackers and system designers. Maybe it's a conspiracy - better get Fox Mulder on the phone! (LOL; Seriously annoying to not find references, though)

A cold bug is where a gate is forced into a specific state and can't switch to another output. This can do anything from simply crashing the CPU, to actually destroying transistors(and thus rendering the CPU worthless). Even though the chip is really cold overall, it can get quite hot in a small area since it takes time to sink heat. Otherwise, stuff like PROM's that use actual fuses would be impossible, obviously.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latchup Here's an interesting article on a related issue.

Ok so I had an idea on how the 3ds could be hacked.

The ds flashcarts typically worked by masquarading as a real cart right?
But how did the flashcart companies get the required information out of the carts? I'm guessing that maybe someone who worked on the original game leaked the information to them.

So will this work with the 3ds too? If someone is able to create a real 3ds game, would they have access to some killer information that could allow a flashcart to be produced?
All a flashcart company would need to do is set up a new company and buy the dev kit from nintendo, and then produce a shovelware game, and get it published or whatever. A group of enthusiasts could probably do this as well, maybe raising necessary funds through a crowdsourcing initiative.

Hmmm, I honestly believe we should be waiting on hardware hacks to try to get keys into the 3ds. Even getting the pub key to a single 3ds would be big, because that would give the hacker far more freedom inside his 3ds, finding more exploits and trying to get the other key, you know, to solve that chicken and the egg problem. Neimod has already got RAM access, and he has edited it already (even if by just a little bit of text editing) to change the system menu. At this point, I think hacking the 3DS is a bit more viable being able to snoop around in the ram :) Neimod's RAM dump board looks freaking sweet though, wish I had the money and the skill to make one :D

Almost definitely pointless, but they fixed the crash on the 3DS browser when you go to 3DSexploit.webs.com.
It just seemed a bit obscure to matter that much..
IIRC, some people were claiming the browser was a little faster at browsing large sites after the last update, it could have been fixed as a by-product of improving memory management within the browser. Other browsers handle the site by just temporarily disabling the script engine if the page uses too much memory, I'd guess the 3DS has been made to do the same.
It still crashes, just doesn't freeze the whole system.
To clarify: It freezes for about 4 seconds, then closes the browser and displays a message:
"An Error has occured.
Please save your data in any software currently in use, then restart the system."

What if we were able to seperate the header from the update(i know its not possible with the encryption), and create an unsigned update with a signed header.

I have been reading about the arm processor modes, by my understanding the only way to enter system mode is by editing the register that controls the processor mode. This register can be edited by the user mode.

Cant we just smash the damn thing and call it a day?

not to get side-traced but like this?

He should be arrested for nintendo handheld abuse. I can see a new commercial with a gameboy stuck in an dirty underwear drawer while I hear "In the arms of the angels..."
I would make a more ontopic post, but everyones already suggested things I would have suggested and been flamed for, therefore the pressure is taken off me for other people being made fools of themselves. Cowardice FTW

The ~4s freeze is roughly how long the script is running. In most browsers, JavaScript and the UI share the same thread; meaning you can't interact with the browser while it's running intensive JS operations.

What's interesting is, did they fix the crash because people were trying to exploit it, or what?

is there a point in the 3ds where every thing is decryption say like at cpu

Thats the thing, were not entirely sure. Not everything is absoulutely known about the hardware, I bet some people might have ideas why there might be and might not be. However, I honestly doubt there is a accessible point in where everything traveling through it would be decrypted.

first of all, i'm a noob when it comes to hacking but wanted to comment anyway,
I just wanted to share that Colors! 3D has quite a few crashes when quitting the software

like right now i quit colors while it was loading comments in one of my drawings i went to the menu and closed colors, now my menu is stuck trying to access some data that i'm not sure if it's there it won't go past the "saving data and closing software" screen, but everything else on the menu is working just fine ( but of course, i can't use it i can only hear the sounds and see some icons blinking )

Colors 3D has a lot of glitches like that, i think it's worth checking it out, quitting the software at certain times may even cause the 3ds to freeze or get the error screen

after 5 minutes of waiting,i just pressed power to force colors to close, and then instead of powering off the 3ds, i chose to load the menu, but surprise, it froze in the "home menu" screen, it seems not to be able to load the menu for some reason

maybe a exploit could be found through colors
maybe set the 3ds to load some 'alternative' menu files instead of the usual ones or something

Maybe

but there is no way to make the system load some 'alternative' menu files
unless its already hacked!

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
