I don't know about you, but I'm approaching Nintendo's Wii U with cautious pessimismoptimism. We know that the console's core first party titles will be great, but will the new hardware really be able to compete against the upcoming wave of next-gen systems? Probably not, but if they've got Retro Studios making an HD title set in the Metroid universe that looks anything like the Mass Effect 2/Unreal Tournament III mod pictured above, I'm sold.

That is why the latest rumor that comes from French gaming site Nintendotown has me giddy like a little schoolgirl. Based on what we can understand from the translation, it looks like the next Metroid title is currently in development for the Wii U and will run on Epic's Unreal Engine 3. Additionally, a tech demo of the game was reportedly shown by Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios.

Alongside this rumor, two other interesting bits of information were provided, including the fact that Nintendo is planning to really push online multimedia content for the Wii U, as well as integrating the console's operating system with that of the Android OS. Sounds a bit farfetched, I know.

Fortunately we've only got another month or so left until we find out exactly what the Big N is planning.

Metroid already in the works? Awesome! Hope it's true.
But, the prime trilogy should be left as it is. I really enjoyed it, but I sincerely hope it isn't a FPS.

Who's to say it can't run URE4?

...(but it probably can't)

But either way, another Metroid game from Retro would be awesome, regardless of engine. Other M was hugely disappointing.

Too bad the next gen is gonna be running Unreal Engine 4.

PARADE SUCCESSFULLY RAINED UPON.

Too bad its not coming for another 2 years

ANTI RAIN SHIELD SUCCESSFUL!

Anyway, this isnt that much of a suprise. I mean MP3 was running a underclocked (probably the wrong term so just shut up.) Unreal 3 engine right?
Also, that screenshot looks pretty shitty to me.

PARADE SUCCESSFULLY RAINED UPON.

ANTI RAIN SHIELD SUCCESSFUL!

But... like... Unreal Engine 3 runs on like anything nowadays. Hell it even runs on Flash.

Announcing almost anything runs on Unreal Engine 3 is not anything spectacular.

Nintendo has been optimizing it for various third party engines. Given that it would be able to run current engines with ease, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they optimized it for UE4.

Anyway, this isnt that much of a suprise. I mean MP3 was running a underclocked (probably the wrong term so just shut up.) Unreal 3 engine right?
No, it wasn't using UE3.

Also under-clocked?

That's because UE3 is scalable.

For instance, you won't get the Samaritan Demo (UE3) running on a Vita or on an iPhone.

It's an engine, of course it can run it.
It's already a known fact that the Wii U is going to be more powerful than current gen and that Nintendo are aiming at a system able to compete with other future platforms.

How powerful is still unknown since devs aren't allowed to spill out specifics but it's hinted, more recently Ubisoft made a comment on how they are are able to have bigger crowds, more trees etc in the Wii U version of Assassins creed III. Also Sega said that they wouldn't be making Colonial Marines if the Wii U would not be a next gen system from a technical viewpoint.

Are you sure? There was a article on the temp saying that it ran some sort of moddified version. Also, I already said it was probably the wrong term.

It doesn't run any form of Unreal Engine.

Troll go away, if you knew so much you would know UE4 isn't even ready. Ah, and to add to that epic themselves said early part of next gen will still be using UE3.

Proof? Sure....http://www.computera...nreal-engine-3/

My point is that next gen consoles will run it, not that it'll run it out of the box.

Nah, it's probably not true.

There was a thread but they were talking about Unreal Engine 2 and the original Metroid Prime.

The entirety of the evidence for that was the presence of the word /cooked/. It was a load of nonsense.

So would you say that rumor was "undercooked"?

Okay, bad pun.
