So will this support multiplayer?
if not I'll just pass on this mario rehash
fuck yeah, I had the best video game time of my life playing NSMB multiplayer... shame it was only local!
I am hoping they'll include some sort of online multiplayer in this... fingers crossed !! it's definitely my most wanted feature.
Online multiplayer wouldn't work so well as you won't be able to punch the person who throws you in a lava pit!

I'm not a great fan of the Mario platformers, but i am amazed at the amount of negative comments for this.
what do you expect, this is nothing new and is more of just a super mario bros 3 remake/remix i will pass on this, it's using the same gameplay as the DS version and even looks the same as the DS version.
...
I can understand the gripes about the art-style and assets but this isn't a rehash of any game. It's an entirely new game with new levels and worlds just like every other Mario platformer ever released.

Yess I played da shit out of the wii version cuz of it
hours upon hours of nonstop murdering in that game lol good times, goood times
(by murdering I mean me and others purposefully killing each other to troll)
I also enjoyed the Vs mode the ds version had (while not as much content it was still fun)

nah just throw in voice chat and let the trolling begin

Im still disappointed with Mario 3D Land feeling like "just another Mario game" and finishing it within a day.

Wow, you beat all the regular levels plus the Special World levels, getting all the star coins along the way, and even world Special 8-Crown, all in a day???!!!

That's amazing!!

Or, by "finishing it," did you just mean you blew through the regular levels until you saw credits run, then said you "beat the game" like some 8 year old kid?

hey let the kid dream. he still thinks he accomplished something, lol

Take...my...money!

Very happy about this news. Honestly haven't finished Mario 3D Land. There was nothing wrong with it, but 2D Mario is where it's at for me personally.

A think another main bitch of this game being NSMB is that its already been confirmed that the Wii U game is based on New Super Mario Bros Mii. I really hope "based" means only minor elements, one of these games its alright but two?
NSMB Mii was only a tech demo.

I'm all for a new NSMB game, but the screenshots they showed look really bland. It just looks...empty...

I will have to pass on this game, why did they have to put this on the 3DS when we already got Super Mario 3D, which is pretty much a 2D style game apart from the fact of being... 3D...
Now I am starting to highly doubt that Nintendo will release a huge 3D game for the 3DS and just leave it to a bunch of 2D style games...

What are you on!! How was Super Mario 3D a 2D game??? It was basically a trimmed version of Mario Galaxy. Because it was a platformer doesn't make it "pretty much a 2D style game"

I'll def bite on this anyways. this is what the 2D Mario fans want....the same game with new levels and maybe a few little extras thrown in. If that wasn't true then the Mario hacking scene would not be anywhere near as busy as it is.

Also, EVERY 2D side scrolling Mario games is still very much the same as SMB1. A game that spawned a whole age of clones and this series is the only one left standing....and still doing well.

Wow so many negative comments. Well Illl probably buy this game at day one anyway. Who knows Nintendo might surprize us? Like how most of the scnes of twilight princess at e3 2004 weren't actually in the actual game. Maybe these bland levels in new super mario bros 2 wont be in the actual game lol

I didn't say it was a 2D game, i said it was the style of a 2D mario game.

I expected if you liked the previous games then you would be more than happy to receive this, it isn't gonna be the same game as you've played, just keeping to it's core design.

that is the thing, the previous game was far too easy, i got bored by the time i got to the final level, the wii one was not bad though, the big coins were a pain to collect, especially in later levels.

I can understand the gripes about the art-style and assets but this isn't a rehash of any game. It's an entirely new game with new levels and worlds just like every other Mario platformer ever released.

alright i won't pass judgement till i see gameplay clips and user reviews (not ign or gamespot though) i am more interested in animal crossing and luigis mansion 2 more than anything.

It's just more reason for me to look forward to buying a 3DS in the future, I really do love these the "New" series though, it's like Mario Kart in the sense that I can get anyone to enjoy it.

*fans see only one picture of Racoon tail in NSMB game*

ZOMG WTF IS THIS!!!1 ITS A REMAKE OF MARIO 3 I HATE YOU NINTENDO WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO UN CREATIVE UGGGGGGHHH.

Dudes. You have seen FOUR screenshots to a game that was just announced the other day, and you're already calling it a "Mario 3 remake". Not even a video, only some golden shit that makes you think, "Oh, Nintendo is going to make the color gold some recurring theme in this game LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME." Why are modern gamers so fecking stupid and spoiled?

Oh my goodness. And here I though people would have loved another game like Mario 3, or at least the core idea of it. And with the graphics and all the other shit that we have these days, people expect a Mario 4? To me, it sounds like people want Nintendo to make another 8-bit game, kinda like how Capcom made Mega Man 9 and 10. Seriously dudes, take the nostalgia while you can get it. Or, if you're disappointed that this game might not turn out like a game you like, why don't you go and play that game again?

I could be wrong, but you really came off as saying that we aren't allowed to not be excited or like a game....

Meh. In my opinion, this is a waste of the 3DS's capabilities. I don't MIND sidescrollers at all (I loved NSMB, and currently am loving NSMBWii), but still. The only reason I really got NSMWii was because it's a good party game. Otherwise, it's a waste of the systems graphics and 3D abilities.

2 seconds into the incredibly short video we're presented with is a screen that SEGA Japan should be keeping a very close eye on as it looks almost identical to section 3 of level 1 of 'Mickey Mouse: Castle of Illusion' on the Mega Drive (Genesis). Nintendo have sued and won for a hell of a lot less.

To comment on the game in it's current form would be silly. Yes it looks like NSMB, yes it looks looks like elements are being re-used - throughout the years hundreds of developers have been guilty of this, it's nothing new - and yes, new suits and/or power ups would have been nice but sadly they're things to request off of the modding community.

Nintendo knows that no matter what, a new Mario game will sell. Why try reinventing the wheel (Super Mario Bros 4: Super Mario World) when rehashing a game that has combined sales exceeding 51.5 million units across the Wii and NDS will cost next to nothing to produce? If you want innovation, look elsewhere. Nintendo, like the rest of the industry, is running out of ideas fast.

I agree although I never thought the multiplayer was good at all in NSMB Wii. Multiplayer platformers just don't work. I didn't like it in NSMB Wii, I didn't like it in Rayman Origins, it's just something I never really saw the purpose in.

I just wish Nintendo did something interesting in terms of art style for once. I mean, no offense, but Nintendo games aren't exactly very art driven, exception being like Kirby's Epic Yarn and Paper Mario. If they made like a Mario game with really solid 2D graphics then it'd go a long way. Although generally I started feeling that Mario side scrollers in general feel too "rigid". Like not as loose and free flowing as some other platformers. Like they look different nowadays but they still feel as rigid as they were in the NES days, which I think needs to change.

Good points. I think perhaps an updated version of the graphic style used in the Mario and Luigi games would be cool. I really liked that style.

Personally I would love to see another 8-Bit (or even 16-Bit) Mario platformer. NSMB is ok, but it was too easy and didn't really feel like a true Super Mario game to me and was really missing the charm and enjoyment I had growing up with the older games. I want see Nintendo bring back those games and work on those for once. Sometimes the best way to upgrade can be to downgrade to the old ways for a few games.
