Well sure, but after the Wii incident you would think Nintendo would have thought far enough ahead to prevent something like that haha. But I suppose you're right, we won't know until it happens. However, in my opinion, I don't think it'll be a save exploit that'll end up opening the 3DS :P

Of course not. I didn't say it would do a system hack. All I said was to correct your statement. The problem isn't the Save Dongle; the problem is not knowing how all of the checksums are generated yet.
Now, with neimod being able to view the RAM perhaps he can shed some light on those mysterious checksums.

Even if a save exploit isn't a system exploit, it could be used to test 3DS code before getting into the system which would run less of a chance of bricking. I don't mean Nintendo will brick the console; I mean bricking by lack of knowledge of how the system coding works and accidentally bricking the system by the user. Team Twiizers did something like that for the Wii. They started with a save exploit in Zelda to experiment with code until they were comfortable and then moved to the system. (I know, coincidentally, they also broke through the sandbox using Zelda as well)

It's always amusing to see a piracy argument break out. You're always going to have people who spend all their money on videogames and those who can barely pay their rent. People living in countries where a game costs 5% of your paycheck, and countries where it costs 500%. Now about that neimod...
If people can't afford games, then how the hell did they afford a DS/DSi/3DS, and a computer to download roms from? This is why I think piracy is stupid. If you can afford a DS or DSi or 3DS, and you can afford a computer, and you can afford an internet connection, then you can afford to actually buy your damn games.

I made my Desktop PC while i was an apprentice IT Technician, now im looking for work again, im currently living on about £60 a week from JSA *sigh*

I got my 3DS buy using £31 from my birthday money (15th March) and buying a DSi on eBay, fully boxed,
sold it on Play.com for £75, at the same time i also buy DS Lite/DSi screen protectors from eBay at £0.01 each, selling them on Play.com for £2 each..

I then spotted an adv in my local paper for a 3DS Boxed /w Mario Kart 7.. £90..

Thats how I can afford a PC and 3DS...

I'm not sure if this is the right thread, but could the savedongle be used to make an exploit? I know it sounds like a very n00by question, but...

Maybe.

(Im an optimist, unlike some people)
All the Save Dongle does is extract and insert save files, we've already tried editing save files which we found did not work. So the Save Dongle couldn't lead to any exploit or anything.
What was the Twilight hack again?

Read the post I made in reply to ColossalPokemon. Chances of Nintendo fucking up because of a Save file exploit is extremely low, and besides as Colossal pointed out we still can't edit saves yet.

I have a feeling that Nintendo has set some kind of system up to prevent saves from creating exploits by means of some way, whether it does or not nobody knows, but I'd say it's a higher chance that it's true. Nintendo is really stepping up in terms of security, so it wouldn't surprise me.

EDIT: Hell, I don't I've even heard about anyone bothering with save editing recently, perhaps it'll be more of a last resort type thing.

Exactly what I was thinking.

A way to softmod the Wii using a explot found in Twiligth Princess

I doubt that this is real.
Read the whole thread next time, it is real. neimod used his RAM board to change a header in realtime, that's all it is. So it's not an actual Homebrew channel, just a tease by neimod.
That's over 20 pages of n00bs asking when it'll be available. The first 5 pages would suffice.
