ds2's on-board cpu is not accessed by ds roms. it makes no difference that it is there. the cpu is used for the in-game menu features, the movie player (etc), and some exclusive emulation homebrew. in dsi-mode, roms theoretically could access a faster cpu and more ram, but only the cyclods ievolution could do this. sadly, their "compatibility layer" which should have accomplished this was buggy and not exactly "working". when you run any slot-1 flash it (other than the ievo) you are running in in ds-mode regardless of the system you are using. which means the slower cpu, 4mb of ram, wep wifi, etc. the fact the the dsi and 3ds maintained backwards compatibility is the only reason ds phat/lite flash kits continue to function, because ds-mode is still there.

does that help?

Very much so.

So the DSi+DSi XL/LL are the the DS Phat+Lite
as the GBA+GBA SP are to the GBC+GB?

I always wondered about the games that stated, "Enhanced for DSi" and if they would work in my DS Phat. I guess in the end I just thought it was nintendo's way of saying that game might require hardware only the DSi+DSi XL/LL had, camera, and that the games were region locked. But thoses games which are enhanced for DSi do work in a DS phat right? I think pokemon White and Black are the only ones I'de have and they do work in my DS Phat.

This is not really important but kind of related. I was talking gameboy colour to my best friend the other night and I remembered that he never had a gameboy colour yet I remembered him playing pokemon silver with me as a kid. So I dig up an old photo and there we are; sitting head to head, battling or trading or something. My GBC with pokemon gold linked to a GB with pokemon silver. I asked him about it and apparently the Gameboy could play the pokemon games they just looked a tad blury. Never knew.

Is the ievo the only card that was meant to be able to do this because of certian hardware? It would be killer if other flash cards were capable with somesoftware. I all most got an ievo but for some reason that I don't remember why I got a super card, and then like 8 months later in the student lounge at my college. I'm pinching free tea bags from the snack cart cuz I ran out at home (they're free to use while you're there, I just tend to abuse it T_T not often and I do buy PG tips for the cart so it's Tea karma) but I turn around and walk over out of this supply alcove over to the tables and what not, and BOOM!!!! On the table with built in a chess board there is a DSTWO in box with manual. Someone left it there. I made a valid attempt to find the owner as it was like a $50 card at the time (without shipping) and they must have just gotten it in the post. In the end as soon as I got home with it and my little sister who has a peg leg, an eye patch and a parrot found out I stumbled upon a second one, I was made to walk the plank and robbed of my booty. So oh well it's getting a lot of use.

So now I'm just reading your review on the CycloDS iEVO thinking about getting one as all flash cards are dropping. I feel like another year or two and all ds flash cards will be like the M3 GBA cards are now

EDIT: I checked my Yellow PAL DSi and it's got system menu/firmware 1.4.1 E
817©|-| I FEEL GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so can anyone confirm that sudokuxax still works after updating if you already have sudokuhax?
Sudokuhax got blocked in 1.4.2, man!

i know it got blocked.
but that was for people that didn't have sudokuhax already.

i have DSi 1.4.3U. & i "ALREADY HAVE" sudokuhax on my DSi. (it still works on my DSi i use it for DSi dev)
i was wondering if updateing to DSi 1.4.4U would effect it?

So the DSi+DSi XL/LL are the DS Phat+Lite

ahh not really. the ds lite is a smaller re-engineered version of the ds phat. they do essentially the same thing. the dsi xl is the same as the dsi but has larger screens. the dsi has different hardware, which we refer to as "dsi-mode". ds-mode basically clocks back the cpu speed and accesses less ram, so ds software can still run on the dsi.

I always wondered about the games that stated, "Enhanced for DSi"

those games should still playable in ds-mode but the dsi only features will not work. that feature could be the camera, etc.

Is the ievo the only card that was meant to be able to do this because of certian hardware?

via a save game exploit, the ievo is able to launch the my healthy cooking coach rom as its bootloader, and thus trick the dsi into thinking it is loading the actual game. after the game loads the ievo switches to the kernel, from there we can launch roms and homebrew.

i completly agree with you, and you should snag some cards now if you get the chance. the ievo is great for dsi-mode homebrew and ds-mode roms. if you grab it for pretty much anything else it isn't worth it. you said your system is running 1.4.1e, please double check that they have a bootloader exploit for your region (i believe only U and E work, J never got a dsi-mode bootloader exploit).

I opened a thread on TC forum, without much hope for a fix : http://www.teamcyclo...ead.php?t=11446

Now i'm no more able to test SnemulDSx in dsi mode. :(
Well, the DSTwo is at least twice as fast as DSi mode anyway though any ASM code would need to be rewritten.
DSTwo has a bottleneck effect and it's RAM is slower. At the end of the day DSi mode always >> DStwo.

Considering DSi mode can only run dos/win31 games at 20mhz 386 speed while the dstwo can run them at the speed of a 40mhz 386 the bottleneck and slower RAM speed doesn't seem to hurt anything. Of course, the enhanced/modified SDK helps quite a bit.

Thanks for all the great information. I think I know what you mean. My Super Card shows up as a SuperCard DSTWO game in my DS phat, but shows up as some alex rider storm breaker game in my DSi XL. It's tricking the DS into loading what it thinks is that game, similar to how the smashStackHack tricked Brawl into thinking it was loading a map.

My DS Phat does have this problem though where sometimes it says no card is inserted into slot one after I do a softReset or right after hard rebooting it while using the DSTWO, and I just have to shut off the console, resead the DSTWO, and turn it back on. I started to look into it a while ago but never got too far. Apparently it is something that happens with the DSTWO due to something and has to happen because of something (I know that is vague >_

The iEvo has no specific GBA emulator. There is a GBA emulator for the DS that can actually run some retail games when run in DSi-mode... but it's still much worse than what the DSTwo offers.

As stated, outside of DSi-mode homebrew there's no real draw to the iEvo. Lack of support and nintendo updates have been crippling it.

They should have waited for the 3DS update before doing this. We have now possibly wasted a load of exploits that can be anaylised and blocked again when the 3DS is updated in a few weeks. I am sure we could have all lived without updating our DSIs until then.

correct me if I am wrong but I think there are only one or two that can GBA emulate; DSTWO and iEvo?

there are 4 (ds2, ismart mm, iplayer), but i can't recall the name of the 4th. the ismart mm is a rebranded iplayer manufactured and supported by supercard but sold by ismartds. so basically 3 of the cards are supercard products.
