Hacking Any way to remove the "click" ?

The same law is put to use here in the UK. It's to prevent people from taking pictures of people without their consent, as it's illegal.

My phone, bought here in the UK, does not make a sound when taking a photo.

My phone (Samsung Epic 4g, bought in the U.S.) does not make a sound when using the camera. I don't know why, but the obnoxious clicking of cameras annoys me to no end. But leave it to Nintendo to take a precautionary measure and a half I suppose.

We are merely comparing devices that do not make this sound to the 3DS to see the reason as to why it plays the click sound at the highest volume when you take a picture. Whether it is to comply with a law or not.

You could hack the system to be able to blow the speakers out,then get them replaced. But if you wanted to do it for only 1 time,you better not try this because 1.You won't hear any sound exept if you have ear phones. 2. It would set you back about $200. 3. You have to send it out so it can get fixed.

I have a US 3DS.
It plays the shutter sound even when the volume is down and even when there are earphones plugged...

And if there's some law about it in Japan, well then... that's in Japan, and Japanese manufacturerS (without the errant apostrophe, anyway) shouldn't try to impose their stupid laws on us!

Since the device and its firmware originate from Japan, perhaps the option to disable the sound was never considered so they didn't have to waste time and effort researching which regions they should allow the option to be turned on or off in? Or, perhaps they did research and found that certain countries covered by each region required that all cameras make a sound when taking a picture. Take Europe, for example, which is home to many different countries with different laws. If there are any countries that outlaw a specific feature of the 3DS, then the choices are; either disable the feature for the entire European firmware, or create a separate region for those countries.

Things aren't always as black and white as allowing everyone to enable or disable a feature.

This is actually not true at all. You are allowed to film anyone in a public place if you wish, Unless you are being a total pervert about it. Why do you think the paparazzi are allowed to chase celebritys down the street? or when you open your local newspaper you can see the locals perverts face spread across the front page without his permission? They even film peoples kids to put into magazines without permisson in public places.

If you're walking around London I can film you if I like and there's nothing you could do about it. Unless someone is stalking you and harassing you then you could go to court and get them to stop the person from doing it.

Plus, I know Europe has a limit on mp3 players' volume [source] I wonder if it means that EU 3DS-s limit the volume while using earphones...

I understand it for the Self-timer, so you know when you can move again,
and i also understand the additional sound before the image is taken, so you can give ppl a sence of timing. And why should pervs choose the 3DS? We live in an age of I-phones, digicams and anything else that got a cam in it. If all cam-producers would do this together, i would understand it.

Typical Nintendo.
It reminds me on how they treat online gaming on the Wii, making it vry hard for the users to simply communicate to each other while gaming, or simply adding new people.

I hope with the 3DS friendlist, we some day get pictochat back, and can exchange our 3D pics online/streetpass over the friendslist.

Nintendo is so overprotecting family-friendly, it's producing unnessesary disadvanteges for their regular users.

...Okay...what the fuck part of "Japanese Law" didn't you understand? The shutter sound is required. Furthermore, it has ntohing to do with "Typical" Nintendo. Just because everything has a camera now doesn't mean a single damn thing. Because guess what. Most cameras still have that shutter sound that you can't turn off. Guess what, my phone has that, and it's made in Taiwan. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean jackshit.

Furthermore, it has nothing to do with online ANYTHING. It is simply Nintendo following laws, and actually being smart, because yes, without that sound, people WILL use it for less-than-nice uses. Hurrr, I have not seen so much stupidity in quite some time...

Blame it on the noob, MaxxFordham, mr 2 posts, stating that all devices with cameras are now digital cameras whether or not they are a standalone camera. No shit that all cameras now are digital, but just because my Samsung Reality sch-u820 has a 3.2mp digital camera doesn't mean it IS itself a digital camera. It is a cell phone piece of shit.

Just adding to this, but it is in place so that people can tell when they are being filmed or photographed, it's quite sad that we don't have it here. I have been photographed at school and then the photos were uploaded to Facebook without me knowing.
