In Japan, One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP came out with 2 episodes on one cartridge. In Europe, Namco Bandai has shortened the game down to just one episode. Their explanation of this is below.

"Unlimited Cruise SP is a special case a bit. In Japan the game was released with two episodes on a single cartridge with the Marine Ford mode. For the European release we had to integrate the game in 5 languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish) and this posed a problem to integrate the two sets of cartridges available on one for 3DS. We tried various approaches without success (hence the delay of the title that was out at the end of 2011) and in the end we were forced to include only the first episode. The rest is similar to the Japanese version: new characters, Japanese voice ..."

Scamco was too cheap to get a bigger cartridge.

If not now, then later.
That second episode will probably accompany whatever next One Piece game there will be.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, earlier in cartridge production cycles there tends to be a filesize limit. The DS only started to see bigger cartridges a few years later.

4GB cartridges are available. Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D are already using them.

This is just an issue of Scamco not wanting to spend the extra money required to get a bigger cartridge.

Could somebody explain what episode 2 includes? More levels?

If so then I will cancel my pre-order as soon as I can.

Episode 2 was a seperate game. Unlimited Cruise SP is a compilation of Unlimited Cruise 1 and 2 for the Wii. they removed the whole second part. Huge tearspawn in my eyes. I preorderd and I am thinking about canceling my order :S

nope, i don't think it's them not wanting to shell out for a bigger cartridge. it's just translations for crying out loud. a simple text file that contains all the translated dialogues would do fine. add a few more translated menu images for the ones that are image based. the voices stay the same anyway (japanese, i hope). i mean, it's not like they're paying voice actors to record in every language imaginable. even with all those it'd still fit the same cartridge, unless the original JP cart really had it jampacked with no free space to speak of.

i'm betting it's them not wanting to pay for the localization costs. now that costs money, multiplied by the number of languages you need to translate to. they're probably not very confident of how this game will do in EU. but hell, drastically reducing content just to accommodate all languages is bull.

One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP is a remake of the classic Wii game, One Piece Unlimited Cruise Part 1: Adventure Beneath the Waves. Enjoy the game and brand-new bonus material, including the new Marineford Mode, on your Nintendo 3DS for the first time.

Based on the popular manga and anime series, One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP brings Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw-Hat Pirates to Nintendo 3DS for the first time. The action-adventure game allows you to explore four strange islands, battling familiar One Piece enemies in real time. With over 50 hours of gameplay and brand new modes to master, fans of the series will have hours of fun. Battle enemies, collect items and create new useful tools from the things you find on the way to discovering the islands' hidden mysteries.

As you explore the various islands you'll be able to switch between each of the nine Straw-Hat Pirates at almost any time to best suit the situation. Each of the nine main characters has their own customisable controls and new attacks that can be unlocked as you progress through the game.

New to One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP, Marineford Mode allows you to take on the role of various characters in a series of one-on-one battles based on the events of the Marineford arc of the manga and anime. You can look forward to playing as some of your favourite characters and mastering each one's unique and individual moves and abilities.

One Piece: Unlimited Cruise SP - Limited Edition will be bundled with a limited-edition figurine of the character Portgas D. Ace, a key character in the Marinford mode of the game which is based on the Marine Ford arc of the manga and anime series.

That's a bad news.
I would have preferred the two games instead of the action figurine.

I guess a lot of people will buy it thinking there are two episodes as it was announced :/

LIKE if translating some text is making the data not fit.
It's only text, there's no multi-audio, only Japanese.
Don't tell me that translating the very few text in the game make it too big. :/

And they could release it on a bigger cartridge, or one cartridge per country, or two different with multi3 on each.
but "they checked ALL possibilities"...

It's not totaly a "second game" but more a continuation.
When starting the second episode, you are asked to load the first episode's savegame to continue your party exactly where you left it.
You will have all your characters, items, skills etc.

If you don't have the first episode, you had to unlock all the skills again (but skills unlockable in episode 1 had a higher unlocking rate to fill the gap).

That was great to have both of them on the same cartridge as it's the same story.
The were just released separately on Wii to fit two discs instead of dual layer.
