I would like to know if there is any hack/app, etc., that allows wiiware/VC games to be launched from the Wii's SD card menu, but avoiding the Wii's official method of launching such games, which is to copy the whole game to the nand first. I would like to avoid the additional nand writing operations.

I know about nand emulation and currently use it with wiiflow and d2x, but want to learn if there are options directly from the SD card menu

Regards.

There isn't if you want to load it from the System Menu.

So it all comes down to nand emulation and sneek setups, correct?
Yeah, but a partial Nand emu isn't too bad. Just keep a NAND dump on your HDD and you can run the channels without using SNEEK or anything. I'm pretty sure that postLoader supports it, and if you autoboot to that you could manage everything from a SM replacement.

Would this be equivalent to using Mighty Channels or the nand emulation feature of wiiflow?
The only problem there is that Wiiware games still don't have online play working and some VC games don't launch, though the latter is under investigation, I believe.

This implies using Priiloader, no?

Edit: Shoddy grammar

You don't have Priiloader? These days that's like not having the Homebrew Channel, lol.

A possible solution is to keep online WW on your real NAND, and everything else on an emunand.

:) So everyone keeps reminding me. I'll get around to it.

That's what I currently do.
From postloader's post, it sounds like it simply uses cIOS for nand emulation, like Mightly Channels does, so it might run into the same limitations. However, I'll still look at it, as the N64 VC launching issue might have a loader-related component.

Are you getting audio but no video? If so, try running ProgressiveSwitch before and after playing one of the problematic games. You could also use Settings Editor GUI since it goes along with postLoader (thanks to stfour it even uses postLoader's current theme), but ProgressiveSwitch is a lot faster.

I'll look into both. I haven't tried Postloader yet but the the problematic N64 VC games simply hang at the "You will need the classic controller" screen.

Oh, then that won't help you. It looks like your problems are a result of using injected roms instead of the official channels.

No. These are official channel wads. This is a known issue with cIOS rev18+ and d2x.
I just tried postloader and the same thing happens, as expected, as it uses my d2x cIOS's.
I installed the old 38rev17 on slot 240, but postLoader will not let me select it because it only lists 247-251 and I don't want to overwrite those, since they are used by WiiFlow for the auto cIOS selection feature.

Is there any way to make postLoader show more cIOS slots?

That WiiFlow feature is pointless. All it does is force you to use slower cIOS's (because of the base) when you could run the games fine on faster bases like 56/57. If you don't feel like waiting a week, delete all the d2x cIOS's except for 249 and 250. You will be better off that way since WiiFlow won't have a slow cIOS to choose from.

Yes, you have just to wait a week.
Alright!
I look forward to it.

Well, I'm fine waiting week, but now you make me question my setup. Isn't Wiiflow supposed to choose the best cIOS for each game? Why would it choose a slower one if a faster one exists that is compatible?
Also, where would you notice the slowdown, in-game loading or just initial loading?
By the way, thanks for all your replies, so far.

It's more noticeable in games that have slow loading times, like Metroid Prime Trilogy. It's also worth noting that not all bases will work with certain hard drives. I don't know why Miigotu chose to make it the way he did, but I certainly don't think it's a good idea.

Anyway, if you are happy with WiiFlow, then you will be fine. I prefer Cfg because I like options, but stick with what you are comfortable with.

I just installed 38rev17 on 247 and get a DSI error when trying to launch N64 VC games using that slot. It happens after the "GetDir" command.
I had to move the nand contents to the root of the USB drive, since 38rev17 does not support other locations.
It works fine with Mighty Channels, but I would much prefer to use postloader for this.

Yes, only rev21 and d2x support nand folders. If you use lower rev it must be a top level nand. There is nothing that I can do on this.

I do have it at the top level, that's why it works with Mighty Channels. The error must be related to something else.
At any rate, I've settled for the Wad2Iso solution for now, which enables wifi on emulated nand games.
