great job! but one question:do the videos have to be split into 10 minute parts or will say, a full movie play as one video?

It's a limitation on the app. Because it can only record in segments of 10 minutes, it has no reason to playback anything more than 10 minutes (and what we are doing here is kinda unexpected by Nintendo).

ninjaapple: As mentioned dozens of times now, they have to be split into ten minute parts.

snook: did you check at the start of the video list on the 3DS? Also apparently it can take the 3DS a while to refresh it's library, give it some time and see if they show up.

morphius: I don't know. The whole idea is just a theory at the moment, until it gets tested properly. It may not actually have to do with having a blank first frame at all.

Everyone: v0.30 has dropped. Find it in the first post.

Changes:
  • Added mirrored input option
  • Added option for 480x240 resolution (default is still 400x240)
Needs testing, I'm not sure if the new options work correctly or not. Please try any and all combinations possible :)

for the idea of an extra frame: it might be best to let the user choose the image.
or(if possible) generate an image with user-chosen text on it.

most likely the 1st frame is taken as thumbnail, so when using an image with box-art or the title of the movie it's much easier to figure out what movie you're selecting.

In 0.23 I try to convert a 24 min video .mp4 and .mkv (200 MB) and no finish... wait and wait... the temp.avi is over 800 MB now... is normal?

Probably. The 3DS uses motion jpeg (i.e. just a bunch of jpeg files crammed together) which is very inefficient even compared to the old mpeg2 standard.

what do you mean at the start of the video list? i go into the camera and click on view photos/videos, is this the right way to do it?, also the videos are in the DCIM folder but there is another folder inside the DCIM folder where all my photos are, are the videos in the right place? thanks.

A progress bar would be nice. And also if it could utilize full Cpu speeds about 80% so the convert rate would be fast. ~Just a thought~ :yaynds:

Anyone could confirm me if Mac OS X and Windows support files starting with numbers? I'll use a script named 3dsencode, just want to make sure it will work. If it won't, I'll call it encode3ds.

Code:
ffmpeg -i VID_0001.AVI -sameq vid.mpg
ffmpeg -f image2 -i splash.jpg splash.mpg
copy/b splash.mpg+vid.mpg temp.mpg
ffmpeg -i temp.mpg -sameq FIX_0001.AVI

Alright, it now produces the FIX_0001.AVI. It still doesn't show as a thumbnail in the 3DS's pic/vid browser.

During the merging process it says something like "frame 1 is not a valid keyframe" (in red text, which isn't good, right?). And the preview thumbnail image in Win7 shows an image of the video instead of the splash image (don't know if the Windows thumbnail picks up the first frame though).

Also it's gone from two video streams in VID_0001.AVI to only one in FIX_0001.AVI and from 786MB to only 196MB in file size.

it's a possibility, but it probably won't happen (at least at first)

yeah, it becomes a lot bigger than the original, just keep waiting
Can you make it work on 64-Bit systems too?
Mine doesn't work.. :(

I have a 64-bit system and it works perfectly for me. The only thing that could be changed is the version of FFMPEG, which I will leave up to you to change.

Yeah, I meant when you go into the photos/videos, and it displays all your photos and videos, they show at the start. But the videos should be in the same folder as your images.

As I have stated before, it may be nice, but it is not likely to happen as it would be VERY hard to add.
By the way, how do i request this topic to be stickied?

No idea. PM a mod or something? Not sure it's really necessary, but if you think so...

Windows certainly does, I see no reason Mac OS X would not.

Yeah, it cut out some picture...
and flipped left and right so I now get that weird "inverted 3D" effect where the background pops out as the foreground, and vice versa.
I was using a side-by-side video.
This can be remidied by holding the 3DS at a 15 degree angle, but it's not the most comfortable of viewing positions.
Any ideas?
I have the same problem. The left and right pictures are flipped. How can I prevent this. Can someone help me?

EDIT: oh, I see now there is an new version that has this function.^^ Sorry.

Hmm, yeah now that I think about it, it makes sense it would go to one stream. Darn.

Although the "frame 1 is not a valid keyframe" sounds bad too. I'll play with it some more and see if I can come up with anything...

Cool. I'll give it a shot then.

Also I have to apologize. The first version of code you posted for implementing the splash image already worked (with correcting the mepg spelling error of course). I was just too stupid and made a mistake while copypasting to the command line tool. Sorry.

I'm repeating myself here, but from 0.23 onwards everything has worked perfectly for me personally. I've still to encounter a video that doesn't work. The non-showing VID0001.AVI which I am testing with has been converted with 0.22 modified.

edit: ninja'd

Think I've figured out a way to make it work, it's a little laborious, I'll post it later.
Even cooler. But now it's Saturday Night Fever. Later guys!
