Why is the WII with AV cable bad on HD TV-s

Its all blurry.
Is there any way to fix that?

What would be the difference if he bought third party component cables, let's say rocketfish brand.

There have been issues with 3rd party cables not always signaling the Wii to output component. And cable quality does make a difference for analog sources.

Rocketfish should be okay since they somehow got Nintendo's seal of approval - but it's also the same price as the actual Nintendo cable. (At my Bestbuy, the rocketfish is actually more expensive by $7).

Cable quality does indeed make a difference with analog signals, but not by much unless the cable is 20m long and unshielded. It will still look crap. The TV is upscaling the signal to its native 1080p screen resolution. The Wii does not output HD and no converters (can) exist that magically add more data. 480p is 480p.

Solution: Use 480p component; Sit further away from the screen; Suck it up.

That is not true. A bad cable is very sensitive to external disturbances, such as electric impulses. In extreme cases even the signals from the wifi can interfere (rare, but possible).
In the Wii's case the video output is very close to the power input (yes its only 12v, but thats enough). An HDD close to the Wii is also a big cause, due to the magnetic field it emits.

There are a lot of interference around the Wii that WILL affect bad cables, no matter the length.


You are correct about the upscaling though. The only thing those "magic" 1080p hdmi adapters can do to help is relieve the TV from doing the upscaling, which can improve the picture quality. But that pretty much only affects cheap TVs.

i agree low quality cables like my 3rd party component cable wii gets no signal whenever i turn on the Lights or Electricfan.. i tired it with my DeVant Full HD TV and Toshiba Full HD TV and the results are the same. i event tried it on a different house to isolate the problem thinking that it might be the electrical wirings fault but still its the same. i have not tried the original cables though..

can anyone confirm that the Original Cables really works on HD Tv???

Yes of course they do. If compos(h)it works, component works.
Im using 3rd party component which works fine on all my 3 full HD screens (1 monitor, 2 TVs(32" and 40"))


Of course, theres always a chance to get bad cables (manufacture errors happens), but just return then and get new ones in that case.

Gametech brand. Bought it for 74SEK which is roughly 10-11USD.

You can get cheap component cables for the wii on amazon. Also on dealextreme.

I think it is odd that the Wii U will probably make Wii games look better .

Anyways, Zelda SS looks terrible in widescreen on a SD Television :/, can't wait to get my component cables.

Just keep in mind that just because my cable works perfect, theres no guarantee yours will. Usually, the cheaper the cable the less quality control they have.
Also worth noting, all my TVs and Monitor is Samsung brand of quite high pricerange, so I have no idea how it works on cheaper TVs and other brands.

Yes i also noticed that, whenever my wii is hooked up to my devant (which is not a well known brand) the signals gets out more easily compared to the Toshiba brand but still both of them gets the same problem so i might decide on an official cables. Will try to post updates asq soon as i get official ones

Composite is much cheaper to make so that's why they include it with console. If someone buys it for their family they may not care about quality of picture. Also some HC gamers want to get better image so they get nintendo official cable. It's a win/win situation for nintendo
Component is definitly better. Crispier picture and it doesn't do odd blurring when there's lots of things moving. I think I got lucky that I got good quality cable from DX but be aware that most cables have problems especially with grounding and those can cause errors in image and colors.
