so i have a Wii with gamecube ports on it i also have a nice 26 inch sanyo 720P tv from 2008 it has component so im wondering what brand of component cables to buy? i see some on amazon for 6$

My cables are generic, and it was probably around that same price.
It does the job.
Why some cables are priced over $20, with some being $50+ I am still skeptical of, but ...I've also never checked up comparison videos, as I think I need to see the difference in-person

It all boils down to shielding and maybe even the wires themselves.

Cheaper cables will have inadequate shielding / grounding, so the wires will literally cross-talk (EMI) with the other wires inside of the cable.

Proper component cables will have each wire shielded, along with the entire cable itself being shielded.

For most people the cheaper component cables do work, but higher quality cables do (or at least did) exist for a reason.

Is there a website/youtube channel that you know of that breaks down the high priced cables and check?

I have 'Anvil Rose' on you tube to breakdown the popular shoes being pushed currently, and he shows the cheap cost cutting materials show makers do

I suggest buying the best value for component cables. There is negligible difference between cheap and expensive cables.

Tip: If you are crazy about image clarity, find a TV that has 480p output. For example, an EDTV is pixel perfect. Check Facebook marketplace, Offerup, or Craigslist.

Those of us who have been at this while, as in we bought a Wii within the first year and have been using component cables and HDMI2Wii adapters, etc. and have helped people in forums the past 15 years will all tell you: The OEM Nintendo component cables are the ones you want. I have yet to encounter a set that match their quality and why on Earth should I? The era of making high quality Wii cables ended more than a decade ago, and still Nintendo was the only one doing it. No cheap Chinese cable made today is going to be that good. And since they are analog, it does matter if you truly want the best quality. The two pieces of advice that I always give to "new" Wii owners are: If you can use component cables, do so and use the Nintendo ones, and never buy one of those generic Wiimotes -- always stick with the OEM Nintendo ones. There's a reason they still cost more even used: They are worth the extra money. If they weren't they long ago would have fallen in price.
But if you don't care about quality or reliability and don't mind wasting your time trying to solve issues people like me don't encounter after 15 years of using OEM Nintendo hardware, then go ahead and save a few dollars.

OEM. eBay.

I know I'm a bit late to the party but HD-Retrovision cables are built with high quality 75 ohm coaxial cabling with performance equal if not superior to the official OEM cables, I should know because I have their cables for Wii/PS2 and they've been fantastic. But honestly IDK the benefit of asking GBAtemp this when https://www.retrorgb.com/wii.html is a much, much better place for finding the best cables to max out video quality of retro consoles.

They probably are equal to the OEM Component cables.

Yes but again asking in a place like GBAtemp for component cables is trivial when retrorgb exists, but more to the point its honestly embarrassing that people are recommending the OEM component cables over HDRV. If its significantly cheaper than sure but if its costs around if not more than the official OEM component cables then I'm taking HDRV offerings any day. Frankly I was wondering why OEM PS2/Wii component cables were sometimes at the same price of HDRV cables but now I know thanks seeing people who apparently don't know about HD-Retrovision (or retrogamingcables) for that matter for modern affordable cables.

The only time I would say to get OEM cables over third party sellers is the OG Xbox/360 ypbpr cables. Even then most 360 systems have HDMI (which can be converted into component/vga if you have a high end CRT monitor) and for the OG Xbox there's adapters like Xbox2Wii that Rondo Products sells which (from what I've heard) is equivalent to official microsoft cables when paired with HDRV cables.

Why? I mean, not because I don't realize there are cheapo stinkers out there, but there are also products like the XBHDA from Retro-teck that are likely superior to the original Xbox component adapter, and for about the same price as an original HD AV pack.

I've got a ~$5 USD component cables for my Wii and they work great.

No "special" shielding, no "gold" terminals, no bling-bling, they just work.

I really don't think it makes a difference. The Wii, maxing out at 480p, really isn't pushing the limits of component video cables to the point where you are likely to notice any difference from subpar cables.

I personally own the OEM cables and have family members who own cheap 3rd party cables. Never noticed a difference.

You're far more likely to notice quality loss from upscaling 480p->720p than the cables. Wii tends to look like a blurry smear on any modern display but 720p is rather a worst case scenario since it's a 1.5x scale and there is no clean way to upscale by 1.5x even with a dedicated upscaler box.

Do you have a comparison of the HDRV cables vs the OEM ones?
