Chances are it already has BC and MIOS, if it didn't SM would automatically install them from any disc you tried to boot. Whether it would recognise GC games probably depends on the DVD drive in the console I'd guess. But you could probably load GC homebrew with a cMIOS and a GC homebrew loader. (Although you wouldn't be able to control it...). With NMM you could even have a "memory card" in theory.

I'm guessing there's probably a *slightly* different system menu? I can't imagine the disc channel would still have the gamecube disc in the banner, and I would think they'd remove references to the gamecube memory card. I wonder how updates will be handled (if there ever is another update... which seems doubtful)

I'd love to play around with one of these 'newer' models and try to put BC and MIOS on them to see if it will still recognize a GC game. I almost bet that it will.

I would take that bet. Those titles will already be installed, but the drive won't accept the smaller DVDs used by GC games.

Well I bet the interface for the drive is the same. I did think that they probably saved their money with this redesign in making their drive GC incompatible, but I would love to try it out for shits and giggles.

What I've wondered about is that the system menu has it built in to show gamecube memory management did they remove the option on the newer wii or is it still there just not functional...I assume they haven't changed the software or else newer games would have an update

They didn't change anything, just checked it for you

Have you dissected one yet? How different is the hardware? Is it theoretically possible to install: An older disc drive (that can accept mini DVDs) and GCN controller/memory card ports, and then have a fully functional wii? I don't know why anyone would considering how cheap Wiis with BC are, but I'm just curious

why should they remove it?
Its for sure more work and more expensive than just leaving the crap inside.

Because it would take them probably all of 3 seconds to redesign the graphics, and quickly hacking together a specific version of SM 4.3 without access to the GCN memory management wouldn't take very long either. And if the new drive is truly incompatible with 8cm discs, then you know that there will be customer support hell when someone says "there was a picture of a gamecube disc in the disc channel, so I tried using one"

Again, just seems awfully lazy. It's be like keeping the graphics/references to slot-2 on the DSi

you mean on the beginning? I though you meant software wise the loading stuff etc., not only the Disc-channel picture.
Someone in a German Nintendo forum said there is no Gamecube disc spinning...
anyway, I suppose Nintendo doesn't care about the Wii so much, no AP in any new Title, last FW update is also long ago, maybe they they moved on and concentrate on 3DS and the WIIu OS. Better is, still no November Update which was promised on 4. November in Europe...

About one thing youre for sure right, Nintendo is awfully lazy, about a lot of stuff...
