Square Enix are holding a “Winter of RPGs” campaign on the PlayStation Network in
the U.S. over the next two months.

This means you’re getting Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI as download
titles from now until December.

Here’s the schedule:

Chrono Cross – November 8th

Final Fantasy V – November 22nd

Final Fantasy VI – December 8th

Too bad these ports had slightly butchered sound (and the FFV translation was absolutely horrible...wtf is a "Y burn"? Shouldn't it "Wyvern"?), but I digress...they're all good games :D

I couldn't wait for VI to be released so I started on the SNES version. Bugs galore, but still fun with the Woolseyisms. Chrono Cross having an official release though, great. Lots of people have been having problems running it (and lacking the drive to try everything.)

But really, my only gripe when I tried the Anthologies version was the loading times on VI. That's what's keeping me from playing it.

What about some remakes a-la DS versions of FF3 and FF4?
I completely hate those styles. They should make proper remakes.
That's the best they want to give us nowadays. The GBA remakes were excellent, but people want "URGGGGH GIMME 3D GRAPHICXX", or at least Squeenix seems to think that.

I disagree that they were "excellent". I don't care much for 3D graphics, but their butchering of the sound was inexcusable. Bregalad's efforts on romhacking.net proved that Square Enix could have gotten much closer to the original SNES sound and for some reason or another they chose not to.

Edit: It's too late to say, but I also disagree with the notion that they were even "remakes". As Rydian says later, they were ports. Inferior ports, no less.

Dang it. I read the title through the "most recent topic" on the main forum page which only showed FF V and VI, and thought to myself that they finally decided to remake them to the 3DS (since they did mention some time ago that they were waiting to see how the it would do), but now I'm disappointed.

Agreed, it was a port, and they didn't even get the sound across platforms properly.

I'm waiting for an actual remake, not a port.

When I'm playing a game I don't give THAT much attention to music. I mean, it sounded fine, similiar to the SNES ones, and that was enough.

They could've done better sure, but what means to me is that the game has got a good translation, extra content, nice and shiny pixel art, and that's it.

I've been waiting for Chrono Cross, mainly since I can't use popsloader on my Go (or at least CBA to if I could) and a PSN copy should work just fine.

As for the others, I may as well stick with the GBA ports. Graphics are a bit worse (not by much) but quick saving is awesome.

so what is this the 50 time they release the games ? either REMAKE THEM GOOD or dont release them again

Even though Nintendo does it, Microsoft does it, pretty much every company does it? They always have "reissues" of games for digital download. Nintendo has Virtual Console, Microsoft has Xbox Originals (or whatever it's called), even Steam has some of the older games available for download. Why are we whining now?

Also, this is the only time to my knowledge that Chrono Cross got re-released since its PSX debut. As for FFV and FFVI, everyone loves them so who cares?
