Woo, I got linked to, I feel famous.

I've been playing a bit of the Gauntlet demo, if anyone wants some screenshots, here's some I took, spoilered because there's like 20 of them:

gauntletds01dw7.png

Title screen

gauntletds02bf6.png

Controls

gauntletds03ct0.png

The very beginning of the game; enemies are present immediately, so learn fast

gauntletds04dh1.png

Collecting coins, although you can't do anything with them in the demo

gauntletds05uw8.png

Picking up a health potion; these refill health to max

gauntletds06pj0.png

Coins and food on the ground

gauntletds07ad1.png

Leveling up

gauntletds08bi7.png

And gaining a Power Move

gauntletds09jr6.png

Your Power Move is now charged!

gauntletds10wm7.png

The extra life system is cute, although you seem to have infinite lives in the demo

gauntletds11wn5.png

Probably the best-looking part of the demo, so I took a screenshot

gauntletds12pe1.png

Launching the Power Move (after having killed everything; it was kind of difficult to get a proper action shot)

gauntletds13ch1.png

LOADING; these are exceedingly long for a cart-based game, and even longer for a game which is stored in memory

gauntletds14lt1.png

The second stage is more puzzle-based

gauntletds15us3.png

Swift boots are fun; they make pushing blocks around go much faster, too

gauntletds16id8.png

Pushing a block onto a switch to open a door

gauntletds17te4.png

Hazardous room, the skulls shoot fireballs and those spikes shift up and down

gauntletds18iq7.png

Gauntlet - Coming 2008!! (*cough*)

EDIT: By the way, the exact process for extracting the demos/clips is to unpack the ROM with something like dslazy, go into /data/stats/, take whichever ones you want (check the NFO for what's what), and drag and drop them onto DS_Demo_Decompress.exe, which will spit out .nds files. You should be able to figure it out from here.

Sweet! Now to go hunt it down! Now we just need Volume 10 then we're up to date as far as Download Stations go.

Yeah, I'm working on getting it. Glad you liked Download Station 9, it was my first official dump!

This is the game carts they use at Target, GameStop and such to allow people to download demos and videos and such. In order to take advantage of it as is, you'll need a second DS. 1 DS acts as the "server" while any other DS in range can download any of the content they'd like.
There is a technique to split out the individual files from the master NDS.

Do a search for an little program called DS Demo Decompress by Michael Chisholm ("Chishm")

The file's usage info states: "Simply drag and drop a demo compressed demo file onto the exe to decompress it." I'm not sure if there was supposed to be more in the readme that's missing, but here's how I do it. It requires you also have DSLazy (Sorry, don't know where that came from originally.)

Load the original file and unpack it using DSLazy. It will open a window showing the contents. In the folder DSLazy\NDS_UNPACK\data\stats there will be a list of files. These are the separate components of the Download Station file. If you drag each piece and drop onto the DS_Demo_Decompress.exe file, it will take the file and create a corresponding .NDS file, dropping it into the DSLazy\NDS_UNPACK\data\stats folder. Be sure to cut and paste these files from here into another folder to avoid losing them when you unpack another demo file. I think they all get named the same thing, so you'll need to rename each one as you do it. Each of the newly created .NDS files can be now run independently without the need to download it from a second DS.

I hope that helps!
