Analogue has announced that they have delayed their previous delay of the shipment date for the Analogue 3D console. The first delay, announced in July, was a result of recent tariff concerns, but this push back was not given a specific reason, citing "unexpected, uncommon" issues. Currently, the new shipping date for the hardware is Q4 2025. When it does eventually launch, the Analogue 3D aims to be an FPGA system that offers 100% compatibility with the Nintendo 64 library, offering Bluetooth controller support and HDMI output.
Why are you singling out Nintendo? As if every game console manufacturer doesn't have limited editions. And as if Analogue's entire business model hasn't been based around artificial scarcity since they were first created. They must be the only company I know who exclusively sells products by preorder only. At least, until now.
Granted in general I do think it a bit lazy to make a different color and call it limited. Limited edition consoles used to be cool. My Pokemon X/Y 3DS XL looks sick and it does feel a lot more exclusive than just a different color of paint would. There hasn't been a single limited edition Switch that gave me that feeling.
I give these ones a pass though because I wouldn't want them to put some kind of design on the limited edition consoles that has nothing to do with Nintendo or the N64, since they obviously couldn't use Nintendo IP in the designs. And I do think some of these limited edition colors are pretty sick. The highlighter neon green from this drop, as well as just about every one of the Funtastic colors from the last drop are all sick.
Obviously, they're doing these drops to get a quick cash injection because their employees need to be paid and they can't pay their employees if they're not selling any products. I'm not gonna sugarcoat that. That's probably why they released the Analogue 3D before the software was ready too. But they look cool, so I'll let it slide.
When you're working on a FPGA core for years and your only source of income is an occasional preorder round for some product which sells out immediately, and then you're not making any more money for the rest of the year, that money isn't gonna last forever. Can't really blame them for doing what they need to do to survive, but I think they could mass produce these things and rent warehouse space and make money all year round and probably make more money to boot. Nostalgia is always a hot commodity, and especially so when it comes to the N64 and SNES and especially especially the Game Boy line.
It still will. Every jailbreak for Analogue consoles doesn't receive updates, so you'll miss out on any new features or bug fixes added after the jailbreak was released. Flashcart is still the way.
That's kind of just Nintendo stuff in general, I mean look at the 3DS, completely normal boring units have appreciated in value since their release, despite selling in large numbers so they are hardly rare.
And Nintendo games... Man, I miss the days when their greatest hits would be sold at $20 towards the end of a console's life span. Being able to get all their bangers i hadn't played yet for $20 was such a steal. Maybe they realized it was too good of a deal or maybe since their sales have been continually so strong with the Switch they figured they just didn't need discounts, but whatever the case they've completely stopped doing that, which resulted in games now keeping their value forever and sometimes appreciating.
I remember buying Super Mario Sunshine for $20... Such a good deal. And when you were a broke ass kid who only ever had money to spend on games after xmas and birthdays, those deals mattered.
But yep, my cousin said the exact same thing just earlier today, and it's 100% accurate. It didn't use to be the case, but sadly since Iwata's death this has become more and more true with each passing day. Nintendo is the Apple of gaming in more ways than one and in just about every way that actually matters. And it kind of makes me sad.
Yup we were kept in the dark with no proof of its existence, even now they show nothing and you rely on fanboy testers who obviously will praise it for been sent free units with controllers and its se card fully loaded with art work.
While customers got the basic console, empty sd card with no cover art, no means to manually add your art..... we had to rely on a user leaking them and others provided web based tools to add them.
They advertised it as having a world wide usb c adapter which all we got was a usb c cable and a 2 pin socket, no additional attachments to make it world wide and turn to a 3 pin.
Its advertised as having wifi for its main use of updating its OS, yet has no networking ability at all to add it to your wifi.
So as it is, we were told for years of delays that the product will exceed expectations, yet when it arrives its false advertised.
They refuse to reply to emails and thus revoking your legal right to return it for a refund because it isnt as they've advertised.
Which is illegal to claim a product can do something when it cant.
As far as I can tell, it does deliver on their claims. To a fault. Some of the quirks of the N64 I wish there was an option to not so accurately recreate. Like the dithering, which most emulators (and every emulator until fairly recently) doesn't even support. When you have 32 bit color (which the A3D does have) dithering usually serves no purpose and actively makes games look worse on a modern display. There are some rare exceptions where it is intentionally used in games for a certain effect, like the Vanish Cap in Super Mario 64.
There is also divot filter, the disabling of which improves texture quality in numerous games including Super Mario 64. This is related to antialiasing so it may be disabled by the AA toggle on the A3D already - but AA can be beneficial and since this filter is technically optional it could be a separate toggle so one could still leave AA on to have the benefits of that without the disadvantages.
To be fair, they only claimed 100% compatibility with official games. If you include homebrew and romhacks in the mix, there are quite a lot of issues.
Some of these also have issues on real hardware so they're not expected to work on something trying to recreate real hardware and I would not expect Analogue to fix it, but if they could, it would be a nice value add because that would truly give it a benefit over HDMI modded original hardware and also bring it up to parity with emulators in a key way. Many romhacks are designed for and tested on emulators only, so they might be difficult to make work however. Others have Analogue 3D-specific issues (Sodium64 to name one) - this is something they should address even if they never promised homebrew or romhack support because it shows their FPGA core is not cycle accurate and improving the FPGA core seems to currently be one of their top priorities. Kaze also proved in one of his videos that it isn't cycle accurate - and apparently they're working on fixing the (somewhat minor and albeit it might not affect commercial games, there's the possibility it could) issues he pointed out.

Like the Duo which got its jailbreak a couple years ago and it's missing all the major updates that made games actually playable on there. The firmware used for the jailbreak was hella buggy.

It seems they have released a couple updates. The last one was minor, but there was one released in the end of January that added support for the NSO N64 controller (nice), added support for switching between memory pak and rumble pak with the 8bitdo N64 modkit (very nice), forced progressive output, a play time counter that finally works, and some fixes/tweaks.
Big news. The latest update that came out today brings support for detecting the game running on your flashcart.
They kinda hide that fact in the release notes, but I can confirm that after launching a game on my SC64 it shows up in the library and the A3D maintains separate virtual memory pak saves (and config) for each game.
So no more juggling .paknote dumps using the memory pak manager on the SC64! Rejoice.
Maybe one day it'll even be possible to launch games on the flashcart directly from the A3D library, skipping the flashcart menu altogether.
General
New: Advanced Library detection for variable game headers.
If a cartridge changes its header, this is detected, added and tracked in the Library. Virtual Controller Pak and per-game configuration is applied automatically and can be adjusted normally in the Library or in-game menu.

How much does this cost, $300? I wish Nintendo would just release an N64 Mini console and yeah it'd be emulation only, but to be honest I wouldn't use carts.

It was $250, but after shipping and tax, it was definitely closer to $300 USD for me in WA state, USA. And eventhough I have a lot of cart games for it, I still use my SummerCart 64 to play everything. It's just so convenient and a huge value.

Yes, it's kinda silly not being able to edit the title. Not just for flashcarts, but also for modern "repros" of romhacks and homebrew. It would be such an easy thing to add a title override to the config.
That being said... Shouldn't it be possible to modify the cart db to change titles? Somebody just needs to make a tool for it, like they did for the images db. It has to be getting the titles from there.
As for jailbreak I don't really care. Flashcart gets the job done and I don't have to sacrifice the ability to update.

Those of you with the Summercart, where did you buy? I was planning on buying the Kaico on amazon but not available right now. Phenom-Mod is also currently sold out, and awaiting a shipment from China. Which tells me (looking at the shell colors they offer) that they aren't making them after all and what they sell might be from the same production line as the "Epicjoy" and all the other weird China brandnames on aliexpress.
