Banjo: Recompiled is a fan-made port of Banjo-Kazooie on PC

A surprise port has just dropped, courtesy of creator Wiseguy. Banjo: Recompiled is a project that takes the beloved Nintendo 64 classic game Banjo-Kazooie, and fully ports it to Windows, Linux, and Mac. The game can run at higher framerates, widescreen, adds in the note-saving feature from the Xbox 360 port, free camera controls, and support for two romhacks--Jiggies of Time and Nostalgia 64. Banjo: Recompiled is available over on GitHub, if you're interested in trying it out.

If none of these decomps had save states I’d assume it wasn’t possible, but SoH OoT does, and it works just fine. So why do none of the others? Both MM decomps, both MK64 decomps, Dinosaur Planet, Quest 64, Goemon 64, Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, none of them. Really disappointing.
To be fair they seem like a game-specific implementation more than traditional save states. They even have a confirmation thing you have to tick to make sure you understand that they don't work the same way:

It's not so straightforward, because it's native code and runs like any other program, it doesn't have complete control over the current state like an emulator does. "Save states" require implementing a secondary save system from scratch, and it's different for each game.

In the case of Banjo it would probably be good enough to just let you keep your notes and jinjos on death or when you leave and reenter, as well as saving your number of lives. If that isn't already in the port then it shouldn't be too difficult to add. Everything else already gets saved, so save states are not really needed.

oh my gooosh, yussss <3
i love this so soo much <3

These are ports, and PC games generally don't have save states. (a "save state" on Windows/Linux/etc equivalent to that of console emulation, would entail saving the entire state of the operating system)

I apologize, but I read your post, and it hit me: "There's a tercet in there:"

Warnings disrupt, more text than I can afford;
Click, ignore; Desiring to play, unsheathe sword;
To denounce, I proclaim, "onward to Discord!"

lol, I get that. It's a ton of information to digest at once, if you're not familiar with the process.
Decompilations lead to fan ports, which lead to widescreen Zelda 64 in 8K 120FPS. Try it on your Steam Deck! You'll never finish any of the games, but it doesn't matter because more are on the way! Twilight Princess in 9.59%!
Seeing Super Mario 64 Plus reminded me, are any devs still working on Render96? I had hopes for Render98, but I understand it's a huge undertaking one person to re-do all the assets. Plus, I think Dave AR shifted focus to the Twilight Princess PC port.

TL;DR: If you've never Twilight Princess'd in 9.59%, you're not a true GaMeR(tm). Dave AR really likes Zelda.

"0 games beaten"

lol, I beat the decompile ports of Perfect Dark, Mario 64, StarFox 64, gta 3/vc, and i forgot what else.

Also, for fun/flex, I own the legit copies of Perfect Dark, Mario 64 and gta 3/vc. Oh, and I own Bajo, but I didn't beat it yet on decompile.

Crazy to me that the Banjo games and both Perfect Dark and Perfect Dark Zero as well as Conker never came to PC when they're all owned by M$. It seems like Microsoft will buy a company then barely care about them. They destroyed Rare.

how to get other languages into the recompiled version?
Not yet possible but AFAIK somebody works on a mod already.

Just create a file called portable.txt in the same folder as the .exe, so it puts everything in the game folder, then run it once to change the rom and activate the mods. Then drop the folder onto your Steam Deck and use Proton experimental.
Or just go to desktop mode on the deck, download the flatpak version from there and double click it, install through discover store. Then right click in the start menu and select add to steam. No need for windows version over proton when we have SteamOS native version. ;)

//EDIT: Don't forget to run BR from desktop mode once to add the ROM (and mods if wanted). After that it will launch from gaming mode just fine.

//EDIT²:
We just need a setting for better drawn distance for the models.
