Does DBI dumps and uses version.txt from the firmware or from the official servers by default if the specified url can't be reached or no local file is found or if found is outdated? I mean, does it checks all the sources for the latest updates (including firmware and official servers) or it only takes into account the first working source it finds?

DBI dumps version.txt only when user selects menu item. No auto action. And for update check only item specified in config is used.

Unlike SX OS, which is no longer supported, DBI is still being developed. I don't think version 810 will be the last version of DBI to be released. What do you say, @duckbill007?

Anyway, was searching for possible issues and found this (honestly funny, seems to be all about roasted ducks ) article.

There is huge poster attached, apparently of some drama concerning this roasted duck guy. If it is to be trusted, it appears that Андрей Комаровских (apparently duckbill, or someone impersonating him), told those chinese guys to just patch the nro themselves. About half year after the release of the allegedly "Stribog and RSA4096 protected" 490.

Honestly, think its gonna be fine, so lets just stop the drama for now.

The mood of his reply to Chinese translation of the binary is quite different than to possible english translation (despite him being obviously annoyed by the situation) and most importantly, does not mention any drm at all.

So, I call him bluff on it.

I do not understand what are you talking about? There were some zhcn versions of dbi that was stopped to build after 647 version because of Roasted duck request. Translation was made by him and I build versions with that translation.

As for 806 in your link it is just a blob replace.

Well, there is mention of some kind of convoluted DBI file integrity protection in rashevsky's github. If you did not say that, than there obviously is no issue at all.

Quickly checked it and it appears to use the same, obvious, method of translating as the one I shared.

Now that you mention it, I have come across another version, 801 I think, supposedly in English, which funnily had both Russian language payload and plaintext English strings.

I have neither run it, nor analysed further (and don't have 'clean' 801), yet it certainly is a bit strange.
