From what I've seen there are three ways to get a PS1 game on the Vita (and play on Adrenaline):

1: Download with that one "shop" app, but there aren't many PS1 games there because the release list was scant

2. Use PSXPackager, which is supposed to convert PS1 to eboot.pbp without compressing the audio files, but I tried this, put the folders that are named with the gameid in the pspemu/Game folder as I've seen instructed, and the Vita didn't even recognize them being there. Maybe this is the choice app, but it's a fail for me so far.

3. Use PSX2PSP, which did work for me. And it's nice that it allows for selecting an icon image, a background image, even audio. But since this converts a PS1 game into a PSP container, audio is compressed and video resolution is certainly reduced to match PSP spec. (480x272) Maybe since the games are being played on a PSP emulator, that's the best resolution possible anyway, I don't know.

If you are converting PS1 games to use with Adrenaline (PSX2PSP) use this https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/PSX2PSP

Alternatively you can just use this standalone PS1 emulator https://github.com/noword/Emu4VitaPlus/releases/download/v0.10/PCSXReARMed4VitaPlus_0.10.vpk

There are newer builds included in Emu4VitaPlus https://github.com/noword/Emu4VitaPlus
but afaik the only standalone version of PCSXReARMed4VitaPlus available is v0.10.

Edit, also very important, with Adrenaline you put the games inside "pspemu/PSP/GAME/(game folder)/EBOOT.pbp" exactly like this, case sensitive, it is important to use "GAME" not "Game" and not "GAMES" and of course the (game folder) here can be anything though I recommend using short names and try to avoid punctuation as they can cause issues.

You can always download PS1 games through the PKGj app, but there are a lot of games missing. You can get PS1 games from a ton of different places on the NET. Has no one discussed this with you yet?

Most if not all PS1 games that are downloaded from any given site are in .bin format, along w/ a .cue file that is often needed for multiple .bin file'd games. PSX2PSP is a great program to use to turn the game into an eboot.pbp file (which you mentioned), which is the actual game found in a folder that has the .bin number (?) of the game (it's found on any CD case that the game comes in, usually next to the region [PAL or NTSC] like "SLUS00757"). I don't know about PSX2PSP downgrading the game, all of the games I have look stellar, and just like it is on TV. I'm not saying it doesn't, but I have no problems with resolution on my Vita. Textures, animations, framerate and audio are all fine.

So if I were you, find a site that is reliable where you can download a bunch of PS1 games, and convert the files from there with the software of your choice.

:)

Important to note as well, when converting to an eboot you have to enable compression and at the very least use level 1. Level 0 compression doesn't work due to how POPS handles the files.

And yes, if you play in adrenaline the resolution is limited to the original PSP resolution AFAIK.

Thanks guys. @The_Dizzy_Vizzy yes I know where to get what I need lol. This was just a feeler post to see if anyone knew why PSXPackager, which presents itself as superior to PSX2PSP, wouldn't work for me. Im not having any problems using PSX2PSP, just was curious about a maybe better way.

I also figured out dual analog and different screen display options (original, full, custom, etc).

It's not like I'm low on space, but why not? In the days of HDDs, it was actually more efficient to compress your SNES roms in ZIP files as they'd be read faster. The decompression overhead didn't matter in comparison to the slow HDD reads. Though SD2Vita / PSVSD have limits far below what modern MicroSDs can do, PSP UMD reading was never as fast as flash anyway. So really, no reason.

Well, as far as Adrenaline is concerned, why would you convert an ISO to CSO, when ISO's work just fine in Adrenaline? Just asking. :)
Back in the day I got several PSP games in cso format, I made sure to convert each one of them to iso.

cso compresses the games, you save a LOT of storage, I'm talking 500+ MB down to 100 mb or less, but the caveat is loading times increase significantly, I'm talking 1 second loading screen turns into 20-30 seconds long, not really worth it imo especially if you got a lot of storage.

The best way to convert games not in the shop is `pop-fe`, it is modern, supports all major OS, and have a damm good collection of POPS emulator configuration that makes their convertion one of the best for the converted games to run well on VITA

I support this and the reason why I didn't mention pop-fe is because it is incompatible with my laptop "win7" but it has a much higher compatibility with adrenaline than PSX2PSP.

I think that is only true if you get the "binary bundle" for the nice graphical interface. If you rebundle that from source targeting Windows 7 it would work. Using the scripts directly as terminal user interface is also an option if you already know a bit of command line interaction, you will just need to intall python3. That is another good thing about `pop-fe`, you can use with or without graphical interface

Great post Gray_Jack! I will be glad to take this conversion tool for a spin. By any chance, would this make Mortal Kombat Trilogy run on the Vita? Just asking... :)
