...why can't they make another Miiverse?
Most of the reasons I heard for Miiverse's shutdown were related to costs of hiring moderators or server costs, yet Nintendo can make and moderate an entire voice chat platform.

What do you mean? How do they moderate Gamechat? Isn‘t gamechat just a face to face video chat with your friends, while Miiverse was a social network publicly visible for everyone?

Of course they can. But it's obvious they don't wanna do it any more. It was a gimmick that probably weren't used as much as we might think

I sure hope they don't moderate Game Chat, because that would mean they are monitoring people's private conversations, including their camera feeds. And that's just creepy. Way too much potential for abuse giving some entry level employees at Nintendo access to all that.

There's an entire report feature and all that in GC, so they are moderating it.

Moderation costs money and companies don’t want to pay for it. It’s not that easy

Content moderation is one of the jobs I do for game companies. And more and more of us are being let go because they deem it not needed anymore a waste of money or both

Roblox is a great example of this. While I didn’t work for them I have friends who did and they were literally told to just get tickets out of the queue however you can.

The other solution which is what my old AAA game company opted for is to replace the team with cheaper over seas labor. But that isn’t really moderation if the team that is supposed to be doing it can barely understand the language. Which then lets things through that should have been caught and removed…causing public to lose trust. Platform lose users, or more

TLDR: moderation isn’t a cut and dry simple process. But it mostly boils down to companies being cheap fucks

Did you miss this one out? Nintendo are going to put in measures to record audio and video from game chat so that they can decide whether to ban them for their own good; however, I haven't heard much regarding this, so take it with a grain of salt.

Because they tied up all of their free cash by hiring every attorney on the planet.

But more seriously, that thing was flooded with spam. It's a great idea if everybody plays nice. But that's never going to happen.

You don't moderate the videophone (very common for deaf people to chat) and video chat like Skype and Zoom.

How could @linuxares moderate the video chat if communicated in sign language? She would have to take a sign language courses and thinking about how to moderate.

I just want StreetPass on Switch 1 and 2. It was amazing on 3DS.
Wouldn't that be hard considering how power hungry the Switch SoC is compared to the 3DS'? Even when powered off, the battery dies in like a month. I've turned on my 3DS after a year only to see it still charged.

Also, who is carrying their Switch anywhere regularly?

I travel with mine to work and back.

I assume that moderation is cheaper these days because much of it gets outsourced to AI and even Nintendo can't deny that voice and video chat are necessities in a modern gaming platform but there's not enough demand for a Miiverse revival to justify doing it.

Nintendo still remembers how they had to suddenly shut down Swapnote after someone was caught using it to send child pornography.

Whoah! Didn't know Nintendo can do that... But I guess it's in the end user licence agreement, which nobody reads

Well like everyone was saying, Miiverse was public, so moderators were necessary to keep things in line, where as after that, and with Swapnote and all public Nintendo services, they just made it so you can only talk to people in your friends list, like from Swapnote to Swapdoodle, public to private so moderators aren't needed, just to save Nintendo money...
