Consider keeping it, it's early to tell how the Switch 2 is going to do and Switch 1 is still getting support as we speak. FFT remaster is coming out on it.

Okay, after taking a break for a few weeks, I gave it another try. I also used tga2tpc to convert the textures. After another 2-3 hours down the drain (on my Father's Day, no less), my main menu now shows "Restored Content Mod 1.8.6" and I'm going to try testing out a new save later tonight.

I don't want anyone else to have to go through this headache and would gladly share my mod folder, but GBAtemp won't allow me to attach the file (too large) or share any direct links.

I uploaded it to LimeWire for now because I don't know any free alternatives /d/xbr4g#BtATYGj72v

I decided to write up a quick guide that breaks down every step I did yesterday so that even a complete beginner should be able to recreate the process. Frankly, the guide OP posted is still a bit confusing and either has extra steps that aren't necessary for installing only TSLRCM (like dumping your game's romfs folder or using TSLpatcher) or doesn't quite go into enough detail in some parts. It's also missing the tga2tpc process, which I think prevents some of the graphics from working correctly (like the main menu screen). Once I get enough messages on my account, I'll come back and just post a .zip file with my atmosphere folder.

UPDATE: I did this on Atmosphere 1.8.0, but it appears mods may not work on newer versions of Atmosphere at this time.

Step 1) Downloads
  • The three .zip files from OP's first post
  • TSL Restored Content Mod 1.8.6 from Deadly Stream
  • tga2tpc 4.0.0 from Deadly Stream
Step 2) Prep
  • Run the tslrcm2002.exe and let it "install" to a new folder. You can delete the bottom four files (2 readme, 2 unins000)
  • Extract the other four .zip files.
Step 3) Modding
  • Copy everything from the new folder tslrcm2002 created. Paste it into KotOR_II_Switch_Modding_Framework_1_0_2\atmosphere\contents\0100B2C016252000\romfs\Localized\English
  • Copy the dialog.tlk file from the "SWITCH TSLRCM dialog FIXED" folder and paste it in that \Localized\English folder to replace the old one.
  • Go into the "Infinite Buzzing Fix" folder, copy the "atmosphere" folder, and paste it into the "KotOR_II_Switch_Modding_Framework_1_0_2" folder
Step 4) tga2tpc
  • Run the tga2tpc application.
  • Click the folder icon next to "Queue" and create a new folder to export the .tpc files to.
  • Click the "+TGA" button and navigate to \Localized\English folder again. Now go into the Override folder, select all of the .tga files in it, and click "open."
  • Click the "Run" button and wait.
  • When it's finished, go into that new folder and copy all the new .tpc files.
  • Go back to your \Localized\English\Override folder and delete all the .tga files you just used.
  • Create a new folder inside Override, name it "Textures" and paste the .tpc files in that folder.
Step 5) Finishing Up
  • Cut the "Override" folder from your \Localized\English folder.
  • Go back up twice to your "romfs" folder and paste the "Override" folder here.
  • Go back up to your "KotOR_II_Switch_Modding_Framework_1_0_2" folder and copy the "atmosphere" folder from there to the root of your Switch.
  • That's it! Run the game on your Switch and it should now show the "Restored Content Mod 1.8.6" text on your main menu screen.

My account is able to share links now, so here is a .7z with my mod folder. Just copy the "atmosphere" folder inside right into the root of your Switch and it should work:
https://gofile.io/d/5XWCJE

If a few people test it and it works, I'll gladly encourage Stellar to share it in his OP.

UPDATE: I did this on Atmosphere 1.8.0, but it appears mods may not work on newer versions of Atmosphere at this time. If you try this and either get it working or don't, please comment which version you're using.

UPDATE 2: My link apparently no longer works, so please use GloriousCheese's upload instead:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/7sjt...estored_Content_Mod_1.8.6_for_Switch.rar/file

Also, it's now been confirmed that none of these mods (including Stellar's) will work if you're on an Atmosphere version later than 1.8.0

Well, I've got some good news and some bad news for everyone.

The good news is that I've had a user from another post report success with my mod folder download... but only after downgrading to atmosphere 1.8.0 (which I'm also using).

The bad news is that the latest version of atmosphere 1.9.1 appears to have broken mod support, so not only will my mod folder not work, but even the original download that Stellar posted will no longer work. You'll have to either attempt downgrading or wait for a new releases that fixes this.

could you reup the link it partially expired and id really like to use it!
I'm not the original uploader, but here you go:

This one's made by myself following Vertania's instructions. Thanks a lot to him!
Have tried installing it and it works perfectly. And as mentioned by him, it only works on Atmosphere 1.8.0.

Okay, I will wait until this gets fixed. These games are classic and the switch. Hardware optimization, very reliable.
As per the Atmosphere description, I don't think it will ever be fixed, due to changes in the firmware.

You mean mods are broken forever?
For Atmosphere 1.9.0 and above, yes. So, you'll have to give up mods if you want to play the latest games. Sucks, I know. But blame Nintendo for making changes to their firmware that reduced the memory available for custom system modules.

Atmosphere just got an update which claims to fix kotor 2 mod support. I havent tested yet.
yeah, i reported to the dev and he fixed it. i tried it and it works. but he did mention that it's the firmware that is actually causing the problems, coupled with sysmodules.
so you can update atmosphere, but still don't update beyond firmware 19.0.1, if you want to play mods with sysmodules loaded.
or update beyond 19.0.1, and play with mods but without sysmodules loaded.

Update: Have tested and Atmosphere 1.9.3 with Firmware 20.3.0 works with mods now. Huge thanks to SciresM!

I am confused. So is the "KOTOR2+the restored content mod" combination working again on the latest atmosphere or not? what do you mean by "sysmodules loaded"?

Ok, seems like I was wrong, and that SciresM has fixed everything. Have tried installing Atmosphere 1.9.3 with Firmware 20.3.0, and modded games fully work now. Below are attached some screenshots. Sysmodules are what's listed on the left side in the Tesla overlay.

Well, that is awesome news! So those of us who haven't updated due to that can now update :).

@Vertania Good news :).

I have no clue what this Tesla overlay is though XD.

Filing this under things to keep an eye out for. kotor 2 basically needs the mods, and not having a clear way to do it before was one big reason I avoided even downloading it.

RIP nsw2u...
