Hacking SWITCH NOOB PARADISE - Ask questions here

Alright new to switch hacking, I am trying to get games to run (mainly just Pokémon Violet, I have the game physically but the cartridge is broken due to dogs, I have the NSP, it works via an emulator when testing. believe its just the base version? point is it works on that)

Heres what I've done:
I followed the Switch homebrew guide, (if needed this one https://switch.hacks.guide/)
I installed Atmosphère and Hekate via the guide.


System settings is 20.1.5|AMS 1.9.1|S currently. (this is a V1 Launch Day Switch btw)

I was told to install NSPs and XCI's to grab something called "TinWoo" i did, then I grabbed NS-USB Loader, but it constantly fails when trying to USB install the game. "Invalid NCA signature" but it says I can continue before: "Failed to install Pokemon_violet.nsp" with a bunch of text after.


I have tried Tinfoil via youtube suggestions, but the downloads there also do not work for me. Not sure why.
People mention "Sigpatches" but I look into those and not much comes up, the FAQ here leads to a dead thread with dead ends there, do I need them? unsure what to exactly do to get the games to actually you know, work.

Just wanna play the game I already own lol; spent like 3 hours trying to mod the system, and now that its finally modded, I spend days trying to figure this out for the games, only to hit roadblock after roadblock.

My switch now boots up via atmosphere but when I try to launch a game or tinfoil it crashes.

I think things are out of sync and I'm wondering how to diagnose the problem and then maybe come back here to get help on a fix please.

Blank prodinfo or something? Anyway, try installing sys-patch, reboot and see if it works after that.

Thank you Blythe93! We are making solid progress - So I can get to the home screen via Haitake. Some games work now but for some of them I get a corrupted software message.

I still cannot get tinfoil to work [Cannot start software]

Instead of sigpatches, I suggest getting sys-patch. As for the installer, I suggest using DBI (latest EN release should work fine for installs, but I'd personally switch to the latest RU release afterwards). Here's a good video on how to use it.

Did you try reinstalling them to see if that will fix them? I usually use DBI and I'm yet to run into an issue with the game installation.

sys-patch is a sys-module so it doesn't appear as a regular homebrew. You'll need a Tesla menu + nx-ovlloader for that.

Gotcha, I managed to get it to work after a reboot. Though now I need to find the Violet update file lol; im at 1.0.1
At least its booted however and I was able to get in the game

Thanks! It's working now. I managed to get Tinfoil working by installing the nsp version. The self installer wouldn't work for some reason.

DBI never recognizes that I have the USB plugged so I got used to using Tinfoil.

I am back up and running, thanks again for the help

I finally have a modded switch. How do I update my outdated modded switch to the latest OFW 20.x.x? Should I just boot into the Hekate recovery mode and launch the OFW FW and update throught the software update or do I need to manually install? I am on OFW 12.1

Did you set up emuMMC and DNS MITM? You update the sysMMC directly through the Switch settings and you update emuMMC with the homebrew app Daybreak & downloaded FW files.

I paid for this switch mod is 2020. What is DNS MITM? I injected the hekate payload to launch
the black and turquoise menu>tapped "emuMMC">tapped "Create emuMMC" then launched the CFW and that's where I see the old OFW 12.
Should I install day break onto emuMMC?
The other factory switch was stock, so I was able to update and mod it wth minimal effort.

I have a question, Is it possible that I can just use the System Memory of my V1 to setup the CFW since I never used OFW? And if I did do that, what are the potential risks involved (like bricking the switch forever and making it not usable or something)
Also, is it common or after a certain amount of time, especially if I travel alot my SD card reading speed gets slow and I just have to format everything and set it up again.
This is also the reason why I want to setup the system memory for CFW and just format and re-copy my games and my saves in the SD Card.

Hello, is it safe to update my modded Switch Firmware to 20.1.5 now? From what I remember, I would need to update atmosphere first right and then download the 20.1.5 update online and manually transfer it to my Switch via USB and update it in an app like tinfoil correct?

My question though is I’m concerned about Nintendo bricking systems due to the terms of service updates that they’ve made with the Switch 2. Does that only refer to the Switch 2 console though? Are Switch 1 consoles still not possible for Nintendo to remotely brick?

Edit: Is it still safe to play my modded Switch 1 online? Or would that give Nintendo the ability to brick my system due to their updated ToS?

I want to copy the savegame of my CFW to my OFW.

I created a backup of the save game on CFW. And I started the game on the OFW and created a save game.

But how can I now restore the CFW savegame to the OFW? I can't start JKSV on the OFW, because its OFW.

Hey!
I am trying to download a few games on my flashed switch (DB Installer). When downloading the nsp files from nswpedia, I open my DBI and run the MTP responder so that I can add files to the switch SD files. After pushing the files on my SD card using an android file transfer (I have a mac), the game is installed. But when I try to open it, it says that i need to have the game to play it (and therefor asks me to buy it on eshop) and on the DBI, when I browse the installed applications, the game is installed but is completely red. Can someone please help me! If you need more information and/or screenshots I will gladly provide them. Thank you so much!!!

Hey, noob bricked his switch on the first day! So I updated the OFW then had to downgrade it, then it was giving black screen then I tried unbricking it and now it's giving the purple screen, though EMMC still works. I tried flashing the EMMC but NX manager gives "Input file/drive not a valid NX storage" after copying the rawnand with rufus. I have no clue how to fix it, I think I somehow broke the partion of switches own storage. Any idea how to fix this, is there a guide?

Hi.

I have a v1 Switch that I softmodded around 5-6 years ago, it is currently on 10.0.2 ReINX (3.0). Is there a proper guide anywhere that will walk me through how to fully update this thing without cocking it up? All I see around the net are some throw away comments with no real substance and I don't trust they are the most detailed and will likely be missing a step somewhere.

I went the emuMMC route and since it has been 5 years it is not exactly all fresh in my memory. It's been sat in a drawer for years but I fancy using it a bit more now that I have a bit more free time. I see that ReINX is no longer supported so it would need to be updated to Atmosphere?

Apologies if I have missed somewhere that has a guide pinned, couldn't see anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
