The MIG Switch reportedly does not work on the Nintendo Switch 2

sotch2.png

With the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 today, one of the first things homebrew enthusiasts set out to do was see if the MIG Switch flashcart would work on the console. Prior to release, retailers of the flashcart were claiming that it worked with the Switch 2, but thanks to the efforts of users on GBAtemp, it appears that it in fact does not work. Beginning with the post in this thread, here, with a photo of a Switch 2 and MIG Switch resulting in an error code. Whether or not there is a workaround or fix is uncertain. Furthermore, a MIG Switch retailer posted about having a Switch 2 unit a month ahead of launch, stating that the unit worked, with what appear to be misleading claims. The potentially shady practices shown here.

maybe it would be best if I made another dedicated switch 2 flashcart thread, like the one I have in the switch 1 section

Then there will be an OP with updated info instead of people relying on long thread chains like this one
Might be beneficial. Though in a sense this would confuse people, many would assume there is a MIG Switch flash cartridge for the Nintendo Switch 2. Which is obviously false as of this time of typing. This really boils down to common sense.

General statement for absolutely everyone reading this:

For those that didn't have good parents giving you good advice to learn from, and for those that just need a reminder, read below.

You shouldn't believe everything you see on television, and you also shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet either. You fail yourself and you fail others around you when you do. Have some common sense, be intelligent, be wise. You won't always get it right, but that doesn't mean double down to be further wrong.

Doesn't really surprise me that much. Nintendo likely bought one to test what it reacts to and killed any sort of Hardware exploit the Mig Switch used. Still sucks don't get me wrong. I'm not like these Nintendrones but still if you were expecting the MS to work than thats kinda just foolish in my opinion.

It reads the MIG Switch but refused to play.

Not what I expected it to do but glad it still works!!! Means probably some old hacking/Homebrew might still work!!

I decant for this but that can be corrected on Switch 1 also with a LOTUS firmware update, so why they didn't do it also on SW1?
for some reason they never updated the firmware since 14.0.0 (2022), so I guess either they didn't care to try anything to block it, or it wasn't possible to block it so there was nothing to do about it

either mig just spoofed a game card well enough that it wasn't possible to do anything to block it without impacting real cartridges, which was the general consensus before

but now we see that mig doesn't actually spoof a game card as well as it should be, because otherwise it should just work. so maybe the hardware for switch 1 just wasn't actually able to block it no matter what nintendo did, and with new hardware they can

but like others have said it could just be a coincidence where maybe the switch 2 is more sensitive about how the data is read from the cartridge while the switch 1 might have had more leeway, and maybe it can just be fixed with a mig firmware update, or with a v3 hardware revision that makes it work closer to a real card

Switch 1 plays games from MigFlash because Switch 1 doesn’t require a full hardware-level check with a game cart. The system just thinks it’s an official game.

Switch 2 blocks this completely, because the system uses hardware authentication. MigFlash or the dumped XCI doesn’t provide the security signatures required to play the game. So in order for the game to play, you would need sigpatches and this would also require custom software installed on the switch 2 to bypass the security checks.

This could never be done by any software update provided by MigFlash. Ever. RIP.
Seems like trolling :D Anyway, we just don't know enough to say whether it can be fixed with a MiG Switch firmware update or not.

Maybe Switch 2 has a mini camera inside the cartridge slot that captured the image of the cart's sticker. Seeing that MIG sticker automatically disabled the game.

My Sky3DS does not work... Then again, i don't have a Switch 2, so.
If you're referring to the non-plus model, then it'll only work on 11.0 and below. Anything higher will require either downgrading or installing older sys modules on emuNAND, similar to what I did with the Gateway 3DS to get it to work. Furthermore, in addition to this being the first model, there is a 10 game limit that will require tacky methods to circumvent it.

So how in 2020-5 would that even fly? That's like begging to get forever banned for every preferred shady payment platform for lyfe and getting your registered domain IRL name and info forever blasted online and shunned.

Thanks you for the info but i was joking.

I never use the dang thing anyways, and we knew this was gonna happen

Trust me, they're gonna make a Mig Switch 2 eventually. Not right now, of course, but in the next few years or so.
Can't wait to use it with GameKeyCards lololol

And if you put a lil note in the cartslot that reads "FU Nintendo you greedy racoons",
magically some nice people will show up at your front door.

It even works in airplane mode !

Sorry for posting in wrong thread, I didn't want to create a new thread for this.. but the Switch 2 pro controller doesn't work on PC bluetooth either... only wired. Seriously big N?! . It just shows "unknown device" and refuses to connect. Maybe it requires the very latest BT LE standard, idk. Has anyone else tried this too?
If they somehow locked out PC BT mode, im returning this $90 POS.
