Should I rush to get a launch model for hacking reasons or not?

I'll probably buy two of them (one for my girlfriend and one for me) as soon as I either get invited for pre-order or pre-orders become widely available.
If you're after accessories this early, just get them from AliExpress they can be pretty cheap.

All that for about €10+/-. Also ordered a rechargeable grip so even if I don't use it I can just resell it.

If I submitted my interest to pre-order a Switch 2 from Nintendo pretty early when they announced it, how much of a chance do you think I'll have to be able to get one that way? I was making a long post about getting two Switch 2 system with one primarily being left on FW 1.0 in case an exploit came around, but as I was typing with pros and cons, I basically convinced myself not to get two systems and deleted what I typed. If chances are high for me through Nintendo, then I could just forgo trying to pre-order one through a retailer. It wouldn't feel like such a problem if it wasn't for the fact that emails from Nintendo won't get sent out until the second week of May, whereas pre-orders with retailers is next week.

Think I should try getting through a retailer first?

Based on everything discussed on here so far, would it be smart to get a launch model so it's on the lowest possible firmware? Or will taking the hardware mod route make the FW version irrelevant?

I kinda don't want to spend the money on one at the moment, especially if it's just gonna sit in my closet until a mod debuts. I'd love to save up and go to Japan this year instead.

But if we think it's important to get the V1 console with low firmware at launch, then I'll get one.
Yes. Also you want the CPU-01 board.

There is word going around that Nintendo is not sending review units out until launch day due to a day one patch.

Could they have found a vulnerability after manufacturing? Or is it just a bug that they don't want included in early reviews?

fusee-gelee itself is a miracle, because it uses a hardware oversight. I'm pretty sure Nintendo will make sure that doesn't happen again on the Switch 2 though.
Just like they did with the Wii. And the Wii U. And the DS. And the DSi And the 3DS. And the Swit-

...My point being, if there's SD card access or USB, it will eventually be hacked at some point.

The Wii boot1 vulnerability isn't itself an entry point to be honest but it is very useful.

Getting as low on hardware and firmware revisions / versions for best chances is a given, "chance" being the operative word here. It's a gamble, something may turn up, or not.

The bigger question is how to prep that early Switch 2. Download the day one update or no? Setup Nintendo Account on it or no? And most importantly, prep an SD card or no, which apparently requires initial connection to their servers?
