Should I rush to get a launch model for hacking reasons or not?

Based on everything discussed on here so far, would it be smart to get a launch model so it's on the lowest possible firmware? Or will taking the hardware mod route make the FW version irrelevant?

I kinda don't want to spend the money on one at the moment, especially if it's just gonna sit in my closet until a mod debuts. I'd love to save up and go to Japan this year instead.

But if we think it's important to get the V1 console with low firmware at launch, then I'll get one.

I agree with BigOnYa, a softmod exploit is unlikely (it would be great, but wishful thinking), and if a modchip gets released, the firmware version probably won't matter. So visit Japan now, and buy the Switch 2 much later.

it's genuinely too soon to tell, unless you know some insider leaker that's also aware of potential exploits, then knowing what it is and or isn't possible is like searching for a needle in a haystack. There are so many things about this that's purely up to ones imagination, but that should go without saying.

from the looks of the OLED and Lite, it's looking like a striking 99.5% chance one would have to the hardware mod route, but that itself is pure speculation. we will just have to wait and see.

When the OG Switch softmod was announced, I rushed out to buy a Switch, it wasn't until like a year later that Mariko Switches came out.

Switch 2 is probably going to be Fort Knox software wise while its still supported. I'm honestly probably going to not get it for awhile.

I have lost access to my original switch due to personal and family reasons, but, I will most likely buy a V1 unpatched switch and hack it, and enjoy it!

fusee-gelee itself is a miracle, because it uses a hardware oversight. I'm pretty sure Nintendo will make sure that doesn't happen again on the Switch 2 though.

this is essentially the reason why there's alot of doubt for future softmod exploits, ever since the "belgium waffle" (iykyk) in the beginning of the switch era that's when they started to crack down on it, however you never know tbh

Have modchip remind me of old day with 128 bit gaming (PS2, GC and Xbox).

Nintendo won't bother with hardware revision like they did with GC and Wii in the past.

Like others have said, it's unlikely that there will be a softmod.

BUT, let's say that it does happen.

You'll know it here anyway. And you should be able to get one, either new or pre-owned, and you wouldn't have lost anything really.

Tbh considering the issues the Switch 1 had at its release, I would say that it's a better idea to actually wait a little while. I don't trust Nintendo enough to be sure that this time they'll sort this out and actually have functioning joycons or that the dock won't scratch the surface lol

But if it's a modchip, then it shouldn't matter anyway. Just get it for the games, don't update if you want to be sure, but buying day one just to be sure doesn't feel that useful to me.

None of you know what you're talking about.

Buy the switch 2 now and stick it away in the cupboard.

Login and activate it get it to the home screen, remove wi-fi settings and power it off and don't touch it.

SIMPLE

The switch 1 had several early firmware exploits, but because of the massive hardware flaw, it was basically ignored.

Switch 2 will NOT be hacked, any time soon, the APU is very secure; but there is much more chance of a software exploit.

Save for Japan after you buy, or sacrifice some other things, I have 4 switch 2's pre-ordered for launch

That should tell you something.

Ummm, gonna need a LOT more of spending money/credit for JP than $450, although $450~900 in terms of shopping over there, and there are plenty gems to find there. Either way, prep at least 2k but better +++ for shopping, and stay at least 1 month to see and do everything properly.

4? Thats crazy. That means if you bought the ones without Mario Kart World, you would've spent 1800 dollars, and thats not even including tax.

I guess we'll see how that turns out. It'll either backfire or actually be worth it.

We just simply never know.
