Are there any controllers that you can use like a sideways wiimote for games that require that sort of control, on original hardware?
Besides the InterWorks Pro Controller U. . .

There's the InterWorks Pro Controller U but from what I've read it seems like a crappy controller with too small of a battery, a crappy D-pad (falsely registers diagonals) and connection issues.

It's no coincidence that the NES & SNES Mini have Wiimote sockets on them - yup they have "funnily shaped" classic controllers!

On the GC-compadible side you have the Hori GB Player controller, probably also for a stupid price :)

Thanks for the recommendations, but neither of those can be used like a wiimote in games that require you to use a wiimote like Wario Land: Shake It!

Those dumb developers not adding gyro sensor support to controllers without a gyroscopic sensor 😫

That controller has the Gamecube's awful ABXY layout on it, or else it'd be perfect. Hori should have just made it SNES-styled. Has anyone tried using the oversized A buttons on a GameCube where you have to rapidly mash the A button? It sticks, and sticks bad. It's very slow to respond too. It's abysmal for playing Game Boy games. I just wish using a GBA as the controller would power the GBA from the controller port, so the GBA wouldn't need to use up batteries while playing in "controller mode".

There's also a cheaper Old Skool version of that controller. I have it, and I think it's the best option for playing classic Wii games with a controller

I'm assuming by "developers" you mean "hardware manufacturers"?

InterWorks was able to do it, it certainly seems in the realm of possibility another hardware manufacturer could have made something equivalent.
No need to be a jerk about it.
