How much does Windows actually track its users?

I would just assume everything. They pulled that recall feature "that continuously takes screenshots of what you're doing on your PC and saves them".

While I'm not too familiar with recall, it was a feature you had to opt-in to and the data was only stored locally.

Maybe. I seriously wouldn't trust them with something like that. Still looking into it, you're right. And it seems they still want to release or/they did already but something with copilot(?). Point is, can't be trusted. They track a bit too much, people have looked into their api calls and it's insane.

Common sense says everything. Why wouldn't they?

This probably sounds paranoid, but just assume everything closed source spies on you. Get an MNT laptop or something if you want control. It's far from convenient but yeah.

If you want to see a report of an independent audit of Windows 10 check this out: https://www.bsi.bund.de/EN/Service-Navi/Publikationen/Studien/SiSyPHuS_Win10/SiSyPHuS_node.html

Specifically you will most likely be interested in: https://www.bsi.bund.de/EN/Service-...SyPHuS_Win10/AFUNKT/SiSyPHuS_AFUNKT_node.html

Checkout chapter 4.1 "Windows Telemetry Data Richness Analysis" in the AFUNKT.pdf

Honestly, I don't trust any Windows OS any longer. For me it's Linux all everywhere. It obviously comes with strings attached and prices to pay but under the line to me personally it has more advantages than disadvantages.
