Celeste developers have cancelled their new game

In 2021, Extremely OK Games, notable developers behind the indie hit Celeste, announced that they were working on a new project, Earthblade. The team set a launch window of 2023, then pushed it back to 2024, further delaying the game to sometime after 2024. However, in a blog post, lead designer Maddy Thorson announced that there will be no more delays, as they have decided to cancel the game entirely. One of the reasons behind Earthblade's troubled cycle came from internal disagreements over who held the IP rights to Celeste, with Extremely OK Games' art director leaving the company as a result. This led to the team looking back at the slow progress they'd made, and decide to end development. While Earthblade won't come to be, the remaining team has decided to work on smaller projects for now,

i know what they meant buy "studio of weirdos" but i wanted to get them to say it.
What i actually meant is that the main character is trans (but it won't stop that every game after the first will be medicore at best or outright bad, just like Team Meat)

Except on this website, where the people who post transphobic stuff on 70% of posts don't get banned.
I don't see all this fear on the majority of the threads, I see people who might not like this trans stuff in games through DEI and that's what gets criticized usually, and it's fine, good thing GBAtemp adopts a more neutral instance, otherwise this would turn into resetera. That's it.

Yep. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, unless it turns into harassment ofc.

DEI as its been misappropriated is a euphemism that includes literally Civil Rights from the 60s. Seriously, do your research, look up what the current administration is calling DEI and/or trying to roll back for DEI reasons, and you'll see it includes stuff from the 60s.

DEI is a fake concern, and people like you and apparently way too many on this site are falling for it hook, line, and sinker. There's a very good reason that people like me and anyone else who's part of a minority group calls this shit out when we see it. Any honor in "neutrality" goes out the window when groups of people are being erased on a federal level.

(Now let's see if mods suddenly lock this thread or delete my post for being inflammatory or "too political" despite being ok with what's been said up to this point.)

"Hey, That's just like, your opinion, man."

In all seriousness, you are being inflammatory by asserting your opinion as being the correct opinion, while claiming that those with opposing opinions are being tricked. You must be falsely equating that everyone who opposes the current form of DEI is a Trump supporter. It's hard for me to be a Trump supporter here in Canada, considering I'm not a citizen of the US, and the guy wants to tariff our imports by 25%.

Good discussion is a pivotal component in democracy. Neutrality, or at the very least a lack of hostility, helps lead us to good discussions.

You're the one putting words into my mouth 🤷‍♀️ I didn't say anything implying people upset about DEI are Trump supporters; I simply objectively correctly pointed out that his administration is pushing "DEI" in part as a euphemism for Civil Rights. This is objectively correct, and can be verified by looking it up.

If your idea of discussion is compulsive neutrality plus pretending everything is subjective when you disagree, then there's no discussion to be had. I also don't recall discussing anything with you.

EDIT: Clarity/precision of words.

Your argument is subjective though. You hold the opinion that DEI is a "fake concern". Others do not share that opinion. This isn't an objective fact that's being argued.

Bringing up what current US politicians are doing in policy is completely irrelevant to perceived DEI in video games, which are an international industry.

My idea of neutrality, or lack of hostility (you left that part out i see) is that it will lead to good discussions if practiced by all parties. Nowhere did i say everything is subjective.

"I also don't recall discussing anything with you" is laughable considering this is a public thread. You have the option to not post, or simply not reply.

You hold the opinion that DEI is a "fake concern".
It is a fake concern, why not talk about the poor writing and design choices instead of engaging with culture war nonsense? DEI is a phony talking point in the same way "woke" is fake. It's an ever-moving goalpost that ultimately distracts from the real issues people should focus on. Games have shit writing and ugly graphics, and blaming "DEI" completely moves the problems away from what's really ruining gaming into a bullshit culture war.

I'm not american.
Everything you said is your opinion, great you can do it.
DEI is destroying games, i'm against it, fite me.
If you're not American, then surely you understand that "DEI" as its been misappropriated is an idea that's American in origin, and has spread through culture wars both in our politics and across the internet. Why are you allowing yourself as a non-American to be an accessory to an opportunistic American grift? That doesn't sound very sensible to me.
