In 2021, Extremely OK Games, notable developers behind the indie hit Celeste, announced that they were working on a new project, Earthblade. The team set a launch window of 2023, then pushed it back to 2024, further delaying the game to sometime after 2024. However, in a blog post, lead designer Maddy Thorson announced that there will be no more delays, as they have decided to cancel the game entirely. One of the reasons behind Earthblade's troubled cycle came from internal disagreements over who held the IP rights to Celeste, with Extremely OK Games' art director leaving the company as a result. This led to the team looking back at the slow progress they'd made, and decide to end development. While Earthblade won't come to be, the remaining team has decided to work on smaller projects for now,

Huh. Lots of hate for pixel games in here. I really liked Celeste. But, I am sort of getting burnt out with all of the pixel games coming out lately. So damn commonplace.
GBATemp just has a lot of troubled, bitter people. They revel in seeing things they feel somehow opposed to getting cancelled or set back in some way.

I looking at Earthblade look great to us. It means like big improve of Zelda 2 from on NES to new level toward in the future of 2D gaming look stunning. It's like mix Zelda and Metroid games in one together look epic. It make me want to play Earthblade game but sad for this game is canceled by developer. RIP :(

because they are over saturating the market. most end up being some cheap pos made in rpgmaker cash grab made by some noob. plus it's 2025 the nes era is over! that's all you see these days these pixel crap and them fucking deck builder games I'm tired of seeing them.

I am terribly sure that those people who hate pixel games don't even know what retro gaming is. Pixels were the norm for video games back in the day and no one complained about that.

Now we live in a world where the norm for video games are 3D models and environments. And the difference between pixels and 3D is HUGE, let me tell ya.

Of course the studio of weirdos aren't even able to agree with themselves... Maybe it's a good thing they spared the world from yet another mediocre game.
not sure how EXOK is a "studio of weirdos" but this is real life, people have conflict, like what happened in this instance. Also i'm sure the game would have been good.
