Both were public property whether you agree with it or not. Also, more than just confederate monuments were torn down, unless you think these people were also a part of the confederacy.

I don't want to speculate too much, but there is always some nefarious reason behind support for a "rules for thee, not for me" ideology. They're delusional enough to believe that Trump will consider them part of the in-group, which of course will never happen unless their net worth is hundreds of millions at the minimum.
