Heartbeat

PC-88 project under final playtesting phase, to fix context errors, typos and other derps. The game has a brutal difficulty, so it's quite hard to progress, but I'm slowly making it to the end. Afterwards, I'll send the corrections to Alpharobo and... take a small break. Too much IRL stuff to handle until at least next year...

Nevertheless, I fully intend to complete the other 3 projects. The pace will just be slower, even on the ones with little text.

Alpharobo released the War of the Dead: The Resurrection of Browning English translation patch yesterday (script by yours truly)! Grab it here: https://archive.org/details/wotdpc88en

Also, time to unveil a couple things...

The Rance 2 hint disk has been secured and dumped by Wily (thanks again to him for sharing it!) and I've been working on reinserting the existing script we have for sections common to the PC-88/MSX versions (Rance SD, Cover girl quiz, hint section...). A couple sections remain to translate and there are a couple technical issues to sort out, but it's no big deal. The plan is to add this hint disk to the Rance 2 existing patch, as an incremental update. Some pictures:

Afterwards, I'll help Alpharobo again on a small Silence game (same engine that Guynarock/Lime/Milk) that will probably be released in the beginning of 2025, before dedicating myself to a couple bigger PC-98 thingies. I'll be a lot slower than last year, but we'll still deliver some good stuff for 2025, rest assured ;)

In the meantime, have a nice holiday season with all your loved ones everyone!

Rance II patch has been updated to add support for the hint disk. The patch won't work if you haven't got the dump from this specific disk, so stay on 1.1 if you don't have it. That being said, it's not too hard to find... :)

Thank you for everything you do BabaJeanmel!

Was thinking of trying to mess with GLO-RI-A and eve. There's so many amazing pc-98 eroge with incredible art. Wish you could translate them all. Haha.

I most definitely won't be translating all PC-98 eroge, sorry ^^ But anyway, glad you enjoyed our stuff!

Have you ever looked at porting the English Policenauts script to the PC-98 version? I appreciate that it's a huge job but I was just wondering how possible it would be. Happy New Year also.

Thanks, happy new year to you too.

PC-98 Policenauts is mostly voiced and would require some tremendous work to be able to display subtitles.

I have neither the skills nor the motivation to work on that one, sorry.

Not too sure if this is the right place to ask but since it is a fan translation maybe it's alright:

What are the differences between Yu-No floppy versions vs CD? Both seem to run fine with the awesome English translation port but I can't say I notice any difference. Usually CD versions seem to add CD quality tracks or even voice acting. I know Yu-No only got voice acting from the console ports and I actually like the PC-98 voiceless vanilla version as is, just curious what the addition of CD is bringing if anything at all.

The CD version includes 9 audio tracks (alternate renditions of 9 FM bgms, which IMO are inferior to the original FM tracks) and a few wallpapers. I have no idea if the game uses the audio tracks in-game or if they're just some kind of bonus. Otherwise it's more convenient to have a single CD than a 15-disk set, so for that alone it's pretty cool it existed in the first place ^^

Voices were exclusive to the Saturn version, and were added back into the Windows version by TLWiki. Including them in the PC-98 version is currently impossible to do in an easy way, and would probably require some very painful hacking - if it's possible at all.

Thank you for that explanation! Personally I like the PC-98 version translation as you ported it without the voices. Gives it that distinct original experience flavor.

Some news...

I have considerably less spare time for doing JPC related projects than the last couple of years, but some stuff is under making nevertheless :)

- Otome Senki/Record of the Maiden Wars has been taken by another team. I provided them the edited graphics I did for the game. They'll work on a Windows version first (using system3-sdl), then I'll backport it when it's done.

- I've slowly started a revised version of Yu-No that adds more typo fixes, optimizes a bit the file sizes, and most of all properly reformats a lot of things. Prologue is finished for now, I'll do the main routes/epilogue/SP disk at my pace in the coming months. It should be done at the end of the year.

- I've been working on and off on another Silence game with Alpharobo the past few months. Time to reveal it as we're around 75% complete: it's Cyber Arms Val-Kaizer. Very short but with the same cool art direction and animations you're used to if you played Guynarock 2, Lime or Milk. Should be done in a couple weeks if all goes well.

Thanks for the info, chief. Does this translation group have its own website, where you can follow the progress of their work? I couldn't find anything online about this. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Time is precious. It's wonderful that someone such as yourself gives so much to translate PC-98 games. That Yu-No project sounds great!

Not that I know of, sorry. I'll let you know if I have more info about the project advancement.

Thanks! The new version won't change much if you already played the game, but it'll look more polished nevertheless. I've improved a bit since the first patch release :)

Update on next projects...

- Gate of Soul: from Dante's Divine Comedy

I did a menu patch a few years ago. Now a full patch is planned! Script is not too long, but the technical side of things will be a bit tricky. Alpharobo already cracked the text compression and sent me the script. I'm really excited about this one in particular, it's a great game that deserves more recognition.

- EVE Burst Error

It'll be a script port of the Windows version, with a lot of edits. For some reason, the translator added a lot of crude jokes (a lot of them about the Clinton/Lewinsky affair) and profanity, and made the characters sound like complete idiots. There are also typos, grammar errors and bizarre phrasing.
The script of this game is huge, and I won't focus exclusively on it, so it's a slow burn one. My bet on it is something like 2 years before release. So don't be too excited about it :)

The archive org had technical problems last year. Is this patch available on other websites? Romhakplaza or similar websites? For better safety in the future.
