Buddy, I want you to imagine that from a child’s perspective

Christmas Day:
“Oh yes finally, a Nintendo Switch!! Thanks Mom!”
*Switch 2 gets announced that shows the new model and improved mechanics*
“MOM I NEED THAT NOW”
*Never plays the old switch again*
*Only to realize that it's the exact same*

If it functions the same way as an Original Switch, why go through the effort?

Because mom I really need that new capture button!

Fr though, Nintendo is so uncreative now, it gets on my nerves. No one cares to play AAA games on a Nintendo console, they get Nintendo for the Nintendo titles and unique gameplay.
If we get all of gbatemp together into one room and we're told to design the new Nintendo console, well ok we'd have a room full of goofballs, buuuut also a new Nintendo console with awesome gameplay and features everyone would love. Not another random button thrown in and branded as a sequal to the last console. Nintendo needs to fire whoever designed that piece of junk. I literally could have done the same thing, and I know nothing about designing consoles.

(I'll still buy one, but with the specific idea of researching and learning how homebrew works. Summer project, here I come!)

ns2 will not have anymore tv dock, only mini hdmi output, battery will be twice powerful with new technology: NanoBolt lithium tungsten, new games will be on propietary microsd cards, unhackable, old games will be played with an adapter, more to came...

What is your source? The last nintendo direct says the games are on the same cartdrige.

I feel like they'll announce it in March, hype it up all summer, and then do a launch in November as usual.
(I feel really bad for the kids that got Switches for Christmas this year, lol. Noobs...)
I bought my sister one this year lol. She's young and will probably break it in a year or two so I saw no reason to get her the big new thing.

Nintendo's really the only one of the three that still has room to make a noticeable generational leap, because Switch's hardware is 12+ years old at this point. Certain first-party games play at 540p and 15 FPS in spots, and it can't play third-party AAA games newer than 2020 at all. DLSS on a portable system could be huge, since all others use AMD's FSR.

They no longer need gimmicks to compete because Sony and Microsoft have let them have this space all to themselves, but magnetic joy-cons would admittedly be a cool improvement. Lastly, they need an OS with actual functionality and customizable elements this time around, Switch's interface is the absolute worst.

Unhackable my butt. This makes 0 sense. Idk who your source is but this seems very unlikely. If you are right though, it will be quite interesting.

DLSS will literally save Nintendo's butt on this next console

I highly doubt the Switch 2 will be a another OS. At the absolute most based off of Horizon. Horizon is proven to be an extremely secure OS for them.

Only because they removed every possible entry point for exploits. No more saves on SD, and don't even allow games to use the SD. No more themes. Neuter the browser. KASLR for all. It was originally based on the 3DS firmware, with every feature of the 3DS that was exploited being conspicuously absent. It's obvious that was on purpose.
I'm really hoping the Switch 2 will have a bit more functionality, though it seems unlikely. I miss themes...

This is just the sad truth of the industry at this point.
  • All consoles removed importing saves
  • Only the Xbox has a browser a limited one at that
  • Themes are completely lost past basic color options and the rare background image on Xbox.

And the entire reason things have to be this strict is because of people taking advantage of the power they've been given. Most people just want basic homebrew support and nothing more. But there are actors who wish for more from piracy, cheats, etc. Those people are the reason things have gotten more strict.

Xbox at least has the right idea. Give people access to a completely segregated dev mode, allow them to run whatever they want, but not mess with the main OS or run backups. It has worked well for them so far.
But Nintendo would never allow something like that, because it would allow people to run emulators, and we know how much Nintendo loves those.

Oh and I understand why they feel that way. For reference Microsoft also has tried to block the usage of Xbox emulation in dev mode.

If they can't build an OS or at least a plugin that allows for basic themes without compromising the security of the system wholesale, then they need to be hiring fewer lawyers and more software engineers.

Besides, that absolutely should not be their top priority, all their best-selling systems have been easy to exploit/emulate. Presentation allows you to differentiate yourself from the competition, and people loved stuff like the Wii home menu. As-is, both the PS5 and certainly the Steam Deck have far superior interfaces.

Didn't the 3DS use horizon? Wasn't that cracked? It's the lack of vulnerable software that is impenetrable, not horizon.
The Switch's build of horizon is an extremely stripped down version of it yes. They basically removed every possible entrypoint. In the entire history of the Switch's OS there has been 1 exploit that could actually allow for kernel level access. And that was patched back in like firmware 4.0. The current build of Horizon is unhackable. Strong term but there has been extensive research put into it and there is literally nothing that could allow kernel level access in the current builds. The only chance of a softmod in Horizon is Nintendo fucking up with a future update.
